Cannot connect through Internet Service Provider IP Address on Windows 7 Ultimate (Remote Desktop)
Hello. I have just recently upgraded both of my laptops to Windows 7 Ultimate. My newest laptop came with Vista, I downgraded it to XP Pro, then I did a custom installation of Windows 7. Before when I had XP, I could connect to my computer using my ISP's IP address. But after I upgraded it, it doesn't work anymore. I have the Port Forwarding set up to port 3389, and I made sure I typed in the correct Network IP Address. I can only connect to it through my Network IP. I upgraded my wireless router firmware, reset my router, and released/renewed my DHCP. And I am connected through a MAC filtered WEP Secured Linksys WRT54g Wireless Router. Here are some possible questions:Is the port number for the Remote Desktop Protocol different in Windows 7?Does the remote setting need to be on a certain option? (Such as "Allow connections from computersusing any version of Remote Desktop" or "Allow connections only from computers running Remote Desktop with Network Level Authentication")Does Remote Assistance need to be disabled?I am willing to risk anything to get this to work. If anyone has any types of ideas, please let me know. I would appreciate it a lot. CPUman216

The default port for Terminal Service is still 3389. If the client computer is not Windows 7, you may need to install the latest Remote Desktop Client. Please see: Description of the Remote Desktop Connection 7.0 client update for Remote Desktop Services (RDS) for Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista SP1, and Windows Vista SP2 If the issue persists after installing the latest Remote Desktop Client, please check Remote Desktop settings. 1. Click Start. Enter sysdm.cpl in Start Search box. 2. Click the tab Remote. 3. Choose Allow connections from computers running Remote Desktop with Network Level Authentication If the issue still occurs, please temporary disable firewall on the Windows 7 computer and check the result again.Arthur Xie - MSFT
