Cannot connect Vista laptop to Windows 7 netbook
I have recently purchased a netbook with windows 7 starter. I already have a laptop with Vista Home Basic installed. I am trying to connect them over the wireless home network but am encountering the following problems: * Netbook can see laptop on Network Map but connecting line is dashed (====) and whenprompted to it cannot connect to it, saying it is not switched on or discoverable. * Cannot do remote connection from netbook to laptop, same error message as above is displayed. * On laptop Network Map, the netbook isnt even displayed. Both machines can happily connect to the internet, just not to each other. Be grateful for advice from anyone. Thanks.

Hi, You may try the following suggestions to test this issue: 1. Check if you can ping the computer with the command “ping computer name” or “ping IP Address”. 2. Connect the router via wired cable instead and check it again. Does the issue persist? 3. Temporarily turn off firewall and antivirus program on each machine for a test. 4. Restart the machine in Safe Mode with Network and boot in Clean Boot to check the result. 5. Configure the connection to obtain an IP address automatically a. Click "Start", input "NCPA.CPL" (without quotation marks) to Start Search bar and press "Enter". b. Right-click the network connection and click "Properties". If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. c. Click to highlight "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)" and click "Properties". d. Check "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically". e. Click "OK". f. Click to highlight "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" and click "Properties". g. Check "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically". h. Click "OK". i. Reboot the computer.
