Cannot connect Dell laptop to hp laserjet 1012 printer attached via USB to a U.S. Robotics router
I have Googled and read all the various forums and guides, I DID successfully setup the printer as a local printer as a first step, I have both the Win 7 laptop and other XP computers all on MSHome group, have downloaded the latest drivers, and still can't communicate with the printer at http://192.168.2.1:1631/printers/My_Printer. Have tried to setup using a TCP/IP address and even as a new TCP/IP port, all to no avail. XP computers all show up in the network, file sharing is great, can even see and share with the mac, there's no problem with the XP computers with printing, and Win 7 can see the printer if it is setup as a local printer on one of the XP computers. The laptop is a Dell Latitude 810 running Win 7 RC with latest updates, router is a U.S. Robotics Wireless MAX g Router (USR5461), the printer driver that worked locally on Win 7 laptop is listed as hp LaserJet 1012 HB. This would be the fourth grand effort in three weeks to get printing back to the Win 7 computer. - ARRGGHH! What am I missing? Edit in response to blond's reply: The printer troubleshoot program comes up with the not too helpful "Windows could not fix the problem. Please contact your network administrator." and under the Problems Found dialog box, it lists "Printer hp LaserJet 1012 HB cannot be contacted over the network".

Did you physically connect the printer during install? Need to verify the driver is functioning before connecting to it over the network.
