Cannot change power options on Root Hub
So I run a device on Windows 7 that has some known issues with power saving (Belkin Nostromo for those currious). The root of the problem si that when WIndows turns off the USB hub to save power the device goes into "permanent sleep" and will never wake back up for use. The only solution is to un-plug then plug the device back in or reboot so the hub wakes back up.So if the computer is left idle for too long I basically lose this device. In previous versions of Windows the "work around" is to go into Device Manager, select the Universal Serial Bus Controllers --> Root Hub and then go into thepower managementoptions of said hub and disable "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power". With that done the USB hub stays "awake" and the device works porperly and consitently. Now in Windows 7 there is strange behavior. I can still set this option just fine. But if the Computer goes to sleep, hibernates, or is even rebooted the setting is lost and it resets to "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power". So effectively I can't set this option, and thus I'm forced back to either doing a fresh reboot or an un-plug re-insert of said device to get it working each time.Settings tried:Alternated between S1 & S3 states for power savingSet the BIOS on/off OS controll of IRQs.Reinstalling said device drivers for specific device

Justin - Ok... There's one more thing you can try changing to see if it fixes the reset of the settings issue.1.) Open the Power Options control panel item. 2.) Next to the plan (Balanced, Power Saver, High Performance) you're using, click the link that reads: Change Plan Settings3.) Click the link below the two (monitor and hard drive) available settings called "Change Advanced Power Settings"4.) Click onthe 6th item down (USB Settings) 5.) Click on the item under it (USB selective suspend setting) 6.) Select Disable7.) Click OK8.) Close the control panel 9.) Test to see if it still reverts the USB hub's power settings.

I'm having the same problem on Win7 Pro x64 RTM. The Generic USB hub built into my Dell monitor causes the computer to immediately awake from sleep. Changing power managements settings for the hub has no effect, and changing the advanced USB power settings in the power profile has no effect. It also doesn't matter if I have devices plugged into the hub or not. The only solution I have found is to not have the hub plugged in when the computer goes to sleep. Since the hub is built into my monitor (and not easy to plug/unplug as needed), this renders the hub useless.

Hi garfunkel,Sorry I missed your post earlier this week.Which Dell monitor is this? What's the make/model of your PC?Is there anything connected to the hub? If not, can you try plugging a keyboard or a USB storage device into the hub to see if this problem still happens? (Not a good long term solution, that's just to try to narrow down the cause)Thanks,MarkWant to know if your hardware will work on Windows 7? Hi Mark, I'm using a Dell 2005FPW, and my PC is a custom-built system based on the Gigabyte ga-ep45-ud3r motherboard (P45 chipset). I have tested with no USB devices hooked to the monitor USB hub, with a USB mouse attached to the monitor hub, and with a Samsung USB printer attached to the monitor hub. None of these configurations could successfully go into sleep mode. If I connect the mouse and printer directly to the computer and disconnect the monitor USB hub, sleep mode works correctly. I'll try tweaking some BIOS parameters when I get some time later this week. There's a "legacy usb device detect" option that I left enabled after updating the BIOS to the latest version for Win7... perhaps it tries to rescan the ports when the computer enters S3 sleep.

Checking the BIOS, all legacy USB device support has been disabled (mouse, keyboard, and storage). I tried disabling "Wake from Power Management Events", but the problem still exists.

Hi All, Sorry for not responding in a long time. Best I can tell, disabling "Hybrid Sleep" allows my computer to successfully sleep, even with the USB hub plugged in. Thanks!
