Cannot add IPP printer (2003 print server)
Hi, Using a Windows 7 SP1 64 bit PC and a Windows Server 2003 SP2 print server I am trying to add a printer by browsing to http://<printserver>/printers in internet explorer, browsing to the printer and trying to connect. I get "Printer Installation Failed The driver files are not available for the current CPU platform. Please contact your administrator to install proper driver files on the server" The correct driver files are installed on the server as I am able to connect to the printer by browsing \\<printerserver> in explorer, right-clicking on the printer and choosing connect. We want users to be able to add printers by following a link on our intranet so this is not really a solution. The server and PC are both on the same domain and this happens whether or not the user has local admin rights on the PC. The printer in this case is a Xerox WorkCentre 7120 using PS driver 5162.8 (this is MS certified). Is there any known reason the why PC would not be able to find the drivers using IPP but would be fine adding the printer in other ways? I have seen a similar question on here about adding printers on Vista and this never seemed to be resolved. thanks, Adam

Hi Adam, Thanks for the post! As you also mentioned the IPP printer cannot added in Windows Vista either, please refer to this: IPP Printer install from Windows 2003 server to Vista client fails for package aware driver. I've been looking at the cause listed on the link you posted - there don't seem to be separate install sections for 2003 and Windows 7 or Vista in the driver inf file so surely this should not be happening?
