Cannot activate file sharing in Vista
I have a LG laptop running windows vista business. I have been able to access our central files in another city with no troubles until 3 weeks ago when it suddenly stopped. I went to network and sharing and found my file sharing is off. I click turn on file sharing and then apply and nothing happens. How can I reactivate file sharing?

Thanks for your reply. I went to the server service and it is set to automatic. If I right click and hit start I get: "windows could not start the server service on local computer. Error 1068 the dependency service or group failed to start" I should also clarify my colleague has had no trouble accessing our files on his XP machine.

Hi Rob76,Try this : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833Use the System File Checker tool (SFC.exe) to determine which file is causing the issue, and then replace the file. To do this, follow these steps: Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow. Type the following command, and then press ENTER: sfc /scannow The sfc /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions Hope you find the info useful

Justohelp,Thanks. I did the scan and the response was: "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations". So it would appear that the system file are ok. I have also done a virus and malware scan and found nothing.Regards,Rob
