Cannot access my DVD ROM drives... Error Message
I've been looking for solutions on this for over a week now and no solid answers. Im running Vista Home Premium 64-bit. Recently, both of my dvd rom drives have denied me access when I double click them. I get the error message "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." I downloaded a couple dvd ripping programs a day or so before this started happening... Ive since uninstalled both but the problem still exsists. Ive tried deleting and reinstalling the drivers, but with no luck. I've tried a couple things with RegEdit but no progress... Please... Any help is much appriciated...

I've already been on that forum and didt resolve the issue. The default was already marked as a REG_EXPAND_SZ... I also tried the same for the AudioCD and nothing. I don't want to perform a system restore because I have a bunch of programs installed that I don't want to have to go through reinstalling.

The DVD ripping programs must left or changed registry values. Try resetting Windows Media Player: 1. Open Control Panel/Programs and Features. 2. Click "Turn Windows features on or off" in the left pane. 3. Expand "Media Features", uncheck "Windows Media Player". Click "Yes" to continue, and click OK to quit. Then Restart. Note: If you turn off WMP, Windows Media Center will be turned off either. You may need to re-configure settings for Windows Media Center after re-enabling it. 4. Open "Turn Windows features on or off" again. Turn on the features "Windows Media Player" and "Windows Media Center". Restart. If the issue persists, it is suggested to export the all the registries under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\DVD\shell\play from a working machine with the same configuration and import to this machine. Can anyone attach a registry export on here from their 64bit Vista Home Premium? The only other computers in the house are 32bit...
