Cannot access files and directories migrated from XP
I upgraded a new laptop from XP Media Center to Vista Home Premium. I am the only user of the machine. I want to clean up unneeded files such as links to the unused "My Documents' etc. My userd ID is shown as owner for the files yet the system will not allow me to access them. Why might this be happening and how is it corrected? Also, since this is a single user machine, is there any way to disable the need to click on my user ID every time the machine awakens from sleep or hibernate?GB in Plano

try this : right click the files or folders and go to properties, now there could be two things.. 1>is that there may be an option that files are imported from another computer may harm or something like that.. uncheck the check box, the IN security tab, the go to advanced, then go to owner and click on EDIT,and select system admin, or your name, now assign full control to yourself there.nowclick ok and then agian ok.. now you will see the properties page again, click on your name and click edit to change the permisson level ,, give full control with everthing on... click oK again and now try to remove them... hope it works
Free Windows Admin Tool Kit Click here and download it now

Thanks. I was listed as the owner, but the box "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects" was not checked. They are all working now. Now, if I only did not have to push the sign-in button every time the system wakes up ...
