Cannot access WHS by UNC only IP Works
Hi, I have a simple home network: a laptop running Win7 Pro 64-bit and a Windows Home Server (PP3), plus a couple of network devices irrelevant to this. I was away for a couple of weeks in the second half of March and it seems some sort of patch has downloaded itself to one of the two machines which means that now I cannot access my WHS using the \\SERVER\ path. Accessing it using its IP, even through Explorer, works fine. All the services which use the IP directly (such as the WHS client backup) work fine. I have not changed any settings. Has anyone seen this and does anyone have a suggestion as to how to fix it? Thanks.

Hi, Please try the following steps to troubleshoot the issue. Step 1: Clear the Hosts file -------------------------------------- 1. Click the Start Button, type "%SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc" (without quotation marks) and press Enter. 2. Right-click on the file "Hosts" (without quotations) and choose Delete. 3. Click Continue to confirm the deletion and verify the administrator permission. Step 2: Clean up the Domain Name Resolution (DNS) cache -------------------------------------- 1. Click the Start Button, type "cmd" (without quotation marks), in the search result list, right click on Cmd.exe and select Run as administrator. 2. Click Continue button to verify the administrator permission. 3. In the popup window, type: "ipconfig /flushdns" (without quotation marks) and press Enter. Thanks, Novak
