Cannot access Snap Server Share (Snap OS) with Windows 7
We have an older snap server on our network. It uses Snap OS, which appears not to be supported anymore. All of our XP machines can access it. When I try to access the share, I get prompted for my credentials, which I enter. I'm using my domain account, which has full access to the share. The credentials are not accepted.I can acces the snap server through the browser to administer it. I just can't get to the share through Windows Explorer. Any ideas?Paul

Hi, When you are prompted to input the credentials, please try: 1. Your Administrator account; 2. The Administrator account of the Snap Server. 3. Other accounts which can access the Snap Server Share with Windows XP. Meanwhile, please also try the following: 1. Check if other Windows 7 computers encounter this issue as well. 2. Check if this Windows 7 computer can access some other share folders on Windows-based Computers. 3. Temporarily disable or remove all the security software (firewall, anti-virus, anti-spyware, etc.) on all the computers and check if it works. 4. Adjust the security setting on the Windows 7 computer: 1) Click the Start Button, type "gpedit.msc" (without quotation marks) and click OK. 2) In the "Group Policy" window, double click on "Windows Settings" under "Computer Configuration". 3) Double click on "Security Settings"-> "Local Policies"-> "Security Options" 4) In the right panel, double click on the "Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level", please select "Send LM & NTLM Responses". 5) Click Apply and OK. 5. Adjust sharing settings: 1) Go to “Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Network and Sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings”. 2) Under “File sharing connections”, select “Enable File Sharing for Devices that Use 40 or 56-bit encryption”. 3) Under “Password protected sharing”, select “Turn off password protected sharing”. 4) Save the changes above. Hope this helps. Thanks. Nicholas Li - MSFT

Thanks. Same thing on all Win7 machines. I think Snap_OS is too old to support win7. Just bought an under $300 TB unit, configured for RAID1 (500GB capacity) and will retire the Snap for my XP users to store non-critical junk. Appreciate your attempt.

Hi Paul, We just bought a new Snap Server 410 and had the same issue of Windows 7 users being able to connect. The solution Nicholas provided (thank you) worked for us and the Win7 users can now connect just fine. I don't know how your server is configured - but I presume you've setup the Active Directory / Domain in the SnapServer admin?

Hi Paul, Today I encountered the same problem. Thanks to Nicholas I was able to change the encryption level and the password protected sharing immediately. Then, because of the Microsoft striptease ;-) of the Home Edition it took me some time to found out where/what to change in the registry, which normally could be done through "gpedit.msc" Well, good news, I've found it! Please follow these steps: Use "regedit" to enter the Windows Registry Editor Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa Add a new DWord key, named: "LmCompatibilityLevel" and leave it at its initial value of 0 (zero) Now you're all set. Good luck! Roberto Marmolani MCP & Microsoft OEM Partner
