I have asked this before but have had n answers so I am trying again.I can access windows update ok but trying to access Microsoft Update fails after it checks wheter I have the correct software. It seems like some WU system files might have been corrupted or damaged, in my opinion the best way is to do in-place upgrade using W7 installation DVD. My English is not very well.

Microsoft Update uses WU core, I'm talking about 0x80070002 error code and recommend you to perform in-place upgrade, also you can try Mark's suggestion (see above). Stop WU, BITS and cryptographyc services, clear %temp% folder, rename C\Windows\SoftwareDistribution and C\Windows\system32\catroot2 folders then start WU, BITS and cryptographyc services.Hope this helps.
