Cannot access/view my personal files.
Ok, so I had some files on my computer which I had special permissions set so that only I could access them due to the drive being shared on the network. I just recently reinstalled Windows 7 so now I no longer have access to the files in these folders. I was able to change the permissions on the folders to allow access to the folders however, the actual files are still not accessible even after taking ownership and changing the file permissions so I'm a bit stuck. The username on the account is the same and the name of the computer is the same, I'm not sure if this could be causing conflict with the permissions?

Right click on the folder > Properties > Security > Advanced > Effective Persmissions Click the Select Button put the username that you are using and verify your effective permissions for the file or folder. Robert Mann MCSE, MCSA, HP ASE

Right click on the folder > Properties > Security > Advanced > Effective Persmissions Click the Select Button put the username that you are using and verify your effective permissions for the file or folder. Robert Mann MCSE, MCSA, HP ASE I tried this but it didn't work. The user account has full control and ownership of the files and folders, however the files still seem to say I don't have the permissions to view them.

I can get into the folders containing the files which all have the same permissions, but opening the file it just says "Windows Photo Viewer can't open this picture because you don't have the correct permissions to access the file location."

Right click the file and make sure Read only is not checked. If it is uncheck it then try to open the file. Robert Mann MCSE, MCSA, HP ASE

It is selected on the first folder and the subfolders but not the files, I don't have the permissions to change it from the main folder though, only works for folders and subfolders, not the files.

Hi, Right click the photo file -> select properties -> on Security tab, select Advanced -> on Owner tab, change it to your current account. Niki Han TechNet Community Support
