Cannot PING or see Windows 8 on Network

My issue:  No computer on the network can do a UNC file share to the Windows 8 laptop.  No computer on the network can even PING the windows 8 laptop.  Windows 8 can ping and UNC file share to all computers.

Here's my network setup:

Windows 2008 Foundation running as a DC.  Three Windows 7 PCs in the domain.  One Windows 8 laptop in a workgroup and wireless (and sometimes on the wire).

All computers are on the same subnet and have the same DNS addresses.

Windows 8 laptop:  NO Firewall.  I have it stopped/disabled in Services.  Windows 8 is on a private network.  File/Print Sharing is enabled.  (for the time being)...  No AV software or any 3rd party firewall or such installed.

What do you think could be causing the issue?  Usually this would be a simple firewall issue, but since my firewall is off and disabled, but the problem still persists - I can't think of anything else to check on.

Thank you in advance for your reply...

Have you checked that the network discovery is turned on?

Control Panel --> Network and Sharing Center --> Change advanced sharing settings

Thanks for your reply.  Yes, this was already enabled (sorry I didn't mention that in my original posting).

I never did find a solution.  I even took two computers - Windows Server 2008 R2 and windows 8 - NO firewall on both machines.  Server is a domain controller.  Windows 8 is inside the domain.  Still could not ping each other.  Which is odd, because I was able to add the Windows 8 to the domain - so they must see each other.  But sadly, no ping.  I gave up trying to find an answer.  The PING was just the beginning of troubleshooting some else - but that something else, I found a work-around.  Who knows if I'll ever the ping resolved, but at this point, I won't even try to find a solution.  Sorry I couldn't be of much help...

If you are in a Domain (or any other respective) environment, make sure the following setting is enabled:

Then you should be able to ping the respective machine.
