Cannot Access Vista Data in XP Pro
Hi - Had Vista Ultimate working nicely on an older Maxtor drive, butthe driveoverheated, I got the BSOD, it made clunking sounds, and that was the end of Vista. I had a couple of files in My Docs which I wanted to recover, so I plugged in my old XP Pro drive, slaved the Vista drive and booted into XP. During XP boot Chkdsk ran over the Vista drive and repaired dozens of entries. I viewed the drive in XP and great - the folder structure looks fine. I copied a couple of folders off the bad Vista disk with no problem. Then I tried to access "Documents and Settings" - no go. It's hidden, andthe encryption has stopped me. I can't alter/reset any of the security attributes via attrib and the XP command interface either. Under XP Pro, how do I reset the folder security on a disk with the Vista file system, so that I can recover the Vista data to another drive? Is it possible, or is the NTFS model too different?
