Cannot Access Shared Folder Vista
I have a Desktop PC which is running Windows Vista Business. I have a folder being shared on it (with Everyone allowed)File sharing is turned on, Password requirement is turned off.I have two laptops. One Has Windows XP Home. It can see and access the shared folder on the Vista Business PC with no problems. My other laptop has Windows Vista Home Premium. I need to access the shared folder on the Vista Business machine from this laptop. It can see the Vista Business machine, and it can see that it has a shared folder. However, when trying to access this shared folder from the Vista Home Prem laptop, it gives me an error message about not having permissions and that access is denied. All 3 computers are in the same workgroup. As it happens, the XP Home laptop has some shared folders. I AM able to see and access the shared folders on the XP laptop FROM the Vista laptop.I am stumped. Does anyone have any ideas?

Also, from the Vista laptop I CAN access the "Public" shared folder on the Vista Business PC.As such I don't believe it can be a firewall issue. The permissions on the shared folder I am trying to access are set to Full Control for Everyone.

This problem is not limited to Vista. I'm trying to access a Windows XP Professional machine under the same conditions -- permissions granted to "Everyone" on both the Shared folder and the folder it contains, but still cannot get access. This is the most common problem in Windows Networking, I suspect. For some reason it never works just how it ought to.I have confirmed it is not being blocked by a firewall.

Hi, Please make sure that Everyone has been granted Read permission in the Security tab of the share folder. In addition, can you capture a screenshot of the error message for further research?

That was it. Everyone was granted permissions in the Sharing tab, but NOT in the Security tab. After adding Everyone in the Security tab, the problem was solved. Thanks!

worked like a charm. Just add "Everyone" to the security tab with r/w access (if you want them to be able to access and write to the shared folder).

I was able to do this for a single folder however I want to do this for the entire C drive.WHen I right click c drive/properties/sharing the sharing button is greyed out an can not be selected.Any work around to this? I really do not want to go thru each and every folder on c drive to grant permission.(the security tab settings look fine with "everyone" in the list and granted full authority). Thanks!

Thank you thank you thank you.!!! I have been fighting this problem & driving myself nuts for hours. I don't remember having to do this before when I shared folders. I'm not looking forward to doing it for numerous folders either, but at least now I don't need to throw 2 computers out the window. LOL
