Can only see Windows 7 in network
I have a desktop with windows 7 professional 64-bit and a laptop with w7p 32-bit they both could
initially see all the computers and servers on the domain but now i can only see the windows 7 computers and the 2008 servers.
I have tried to restart computer browse, services, and workstation in the services, but that did nothing. I also tried to changing the firewall settings, the network and sharing center's Advanced sharing settings, that also did nothing.
I also have tried to refresh multiple times, but that's still not doing anything (not that I thought it would.)
Here was at one point the other computers and servers showed back up on my laptop but then they went away agian. So the only way I can get to the servers or computers is the type it in the address bar \\computername is there any idea why this might
be happening or a way to fix it.
Also most of the other w7p 32 or 64-bit systems they can still see the xp and older servers

Hi,
To troubleshoot the issue, please perform the following steps.
1. Please write down the Windows XP’ IP address and run a Ping test on Windows 7 machine. Can you ping the Windows XP machine from Windows 7 machine? If not,
please temporarily disable firewall or antivirus program on each machine for a test. Otherwise, please try the next step.
2. Click Start button in Windows 7 and type
\\IP address for Windows 7, and then press enter. Can you access the network computer
now?
If it works, the issue can be related to DNS. You may check Hosts file. Please refer the following
article.
Modify the Hosts file
In the hosts file, ignore all the lines that start with *, and pay attention to other lines.
Please only keep the line "localhost 127.0.0.1", delete others.
Otherwise, please move on the next steps.
3.
Restart the machine in Safe Mode with Networking and access the network machine again.
4. Modify relevant settings on Windows 7 machine.
a. Click Start and open Control Panel.
b. Open "Network and Sharing Center" and click "Advanced sharing settings".
c. Expand the current network profile (such as "Home or Work"), and then select the following options:
"Turn on Network Discovery",
"Turn on file and printer sharing",
"Turn on sharing so anyone with network access can read and write files in the Public folders",
"Turn off password protected sharing"
Hope this helps.

As I already said I can get to the wxp machines but only by type either the computer name or the ipaddress
I have gone through all these steps and the second thing you suggested worked on the laptop but the desktop is still not working

Since the Desktop still cannot detect other machine, please also try the following steps.
1. Uninstall the NIC card driver and upgrade it to the latest one.
2.
Clear the Hosts file and clean up the Domain Name Resolution (DNS) cache
a. Click the Start Button, type "%SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc" (without quotation marks) and press Enter.
b. Right-click on the file "Hosts" (without quotations) and choose Delete.
c. Click Continue to confirm the deletion and verify the administrator permission.
d. Click the Start Button, type "cmd" (without quotation marks), in the search result list, right click on Cmd.exe and select Run as administrator.
e. Click Continue button to verify the administrator permission.
f. In the popup window, type: "ipconfig /flushdns" (without quotation marks) and press Enter.
3.
Reset WinSock
a. Click Start, click "All programs", and click "Accessories".
b. Right-click "Command Prompt", and click "Run as administrator". If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide
confirmation.
c. Please enter the following command, and press Enter.
Netsh winsock reset
d. A message stating "Successfully reset the Winsock Catalog" will appear. Please restart the computer.
What’s the result now?
Thanks,
Novak

I had already tried your steps 2 and 3 but I completely over thought this and don't even think of trying to uninstall the driver because I wasn't having any other issues except that.
