Can only get read acess to files in most settings with Windows 7.
I have two Windows 7 Home Premium boxes, PC2 & PC3. There are files on PC3 that I wish to share with my wife on PC2 and there are other people on the network that I don’t want to have access to these files. Both Mike and Beth have identical accounts on each box with the same password. Both computers are set to the same workgroup. If I use the Sharing Wizard, I can set permissions to Everybody and Everybody has read/write access. If I do anything else, the best I can get is read access. In fact I get read access with nearly any other setting other than don’t share the folder. I read that if the password were linked with Windows Live account permissions could be set specifically to someone on another computer via the linked account. That didn’t work either. I have turned off, Homegroup, the Firewall, and Sharing Wizard in folders options, I have changed both of the bottom settings on the Advanced Sharing Manager and done all of that in about every combination that I can think of. The only way I can get read/write access is to grant access to Everybody. I’ve only found two people describe the problem. One was asking about linking passwords and neither of them had found a solution. Any help would be appreciated

Please turn on Password Protected Sharing in Network and Sharing Center. Then remove “Everyone” from the permission list of the shared folder and specially add Mike and Beth into the permission list. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
