Hi,Are you using XP Operating System? If yes, boot the computer in Safe Mode and do these:1. Click Start.2. Click Run.3. Type MSCONFIG.4. Click BOOT.INI tab.5. Make sure that none of the checkboxes within the Boot Options frame is checked. Uncheck it if there's something that is checked.6. Click Apply.7. Click OK.8. Restart the computer and see if it boots back up in the Normal Mode.Let me know if this helps.

Thanks Jaycee for taking the time to reply.I did the above. all boxes are unchecked but in the box above 'check all boot paths' there were the following[boot loader]time out=30default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition2\windows[operating system]multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)WINDOWS="Microsoft XP Home Edititon"/noexecute=optin/fastdetect.I also pressed check all boot paths button and it's coming backing 'All BOOT.INI lines are working properly'.Although on xp system I never upgraded to SP3 if that's any help. Many thanks again.

Hi,Your Boot.ini doesn't look right at all!Try to Open run and type in the txt box:msconfig click [OK]On the System Configuration window click on General tab and make sure this option is checked:(*) Normal Startup- load all devices and servicesUnder Boot Tab make sure these check boxes not checked:[ ] /SafeBoot[ ] /NoGuiBoot[ ] /BootLog[ ] /Basevideo[ ] /SOSUnder Services Tab make sure the Reimage services not checked.Click Apply then Ok and reboot your machine.Does that help?A Healthy Boot.INI looks like this:[boot loader]timeout=30default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS[operating systems]multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn I don't know where you got the (2) from unless reimage trying to create another workable partition which it shouldn't at ALL. nass -- http://www.nasstec.co.uk

Hi Nass1,The Reason there is a (2) there is because I have two drives. C & D. My E drive is for CD's and my F drive for usb's.BUT - The plot thickens :( In my haste to get it all sorted...I went and clicked something somewhere and I've lost my Config.Msi file...well not the file, it's sitting there nice as you like...but absolutely empty! so I couldn't do the things you suggested.Any ideas how I get out of this MESS? If, with your help I can get this sorted, I promise I'll not go near a downloaded 'supposed to help' programme again..cross my heart and hope to die :-)Many thanks.ps. Can still get in through safe mode.

If you can boot into Safe Mode try to Restore the system to an earlier stage by using System Restore.Click Start >> All Programs >> Accessories >> System Tools >> System Restore. It doesn't mean you have Two HDDs/Partitions you Boot.ini will have the number (2) in it. It means you have two operating system installed or the OS been install again on the same Partition.Say I have XP pro and XP Home and want to use XP pro as default OS to boot direct to the desktop if I didn't select Operating system. My Boot.ini Will look like this;[boot loader]timeout=30default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS[operating systems]multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn Try the restore and let us know your progress.nass -- http://www.nasstec.co.uk

Hi Nass1,I had already tried system restore but it didn't change anything. I tried it again tonight from a restore point in May but no joy.I don't have a cd that I could try a repair. Do you think I'll have to restore it to factory settings? I know I'd lose everything but this is driving me nuts..well more nuts than I was :-)Many thanks

Hi Nass1,I contacted reimage and arranged a remote assistance appointment. All went well for 5 mins and then I couldn't get back onto my computer at all, it was my fault, now there's a surprise..lol.To cut a long story short. The last email received from them was to use the xp cd and do a repair. The only problem there is that when I do that the information I receive states ... 'This cd is an older version of the system you are currently using'. Would that be because I now have SP2? I was intending moving to SP3 but as I'm still having problems I won't be moving to anything at the moment.Still trying to find solutions but just wanted to give you and update and thank your for your help.
