Can not see win 7 machine on XP machines
I have 10 xp computers on a domain network. We just bought a win7 machine and it is on the network. I can see all the computers on the network from the win7 machine. I can not see the win7 machine from the XP rigs. I am trying to map a shared folder on the win7 machine to an XP machine. It keeps telling me the network path can not be found. The XP machine is XP pro Service pack 3. the machines are on a domain not a workgroup.I have tried to map via the IP adress of the win7 machine and it still says network path can not be found. I am sure this is a simple setting in Win7 I am missing but all the fixes I have seen in this and other forums have to do with machins in workgoups.

I have the same problem. Despite repeated attempts over the months I have given up. I have Vista Home, Vista x64, and Win 7 that all talk happily wired and wirelessly over Netgear gear. The XP machine is the ugly step sister. Oddly, it sometimes will appear on the network, but shortly disappears again. My workaround was to have a shared external HDD that I manually hot swap between the XP and the x64 Vista machines. I call it manual networking, or the network you have when your network doesn't work. I now consider it a feature. Awesome!

Hi, Can you ping the Windows 7 machine from Windows XP machine? Here are some suggestions you can try: 1. Temporarily disable firewall on each machine. 2. Install the Link Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD) Responder package on Windows XP machine from the link below: Link Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD) Responder package 3. Assure the following services are started on each machine: Computer Browser, Server, Workstation 5. Write down the computer name for Windows 7. Click Start button in Windows XP and type \\Windows 7 computer name, and then press enter. Can you access the Windows 7 computer now? Thanks, Novak
