Can not get to internet
I have a new HP laptop with Win7 and a new wireless router, Linksys WRT310N, and a modem provided by Comcast. I can connect to the wireless router, get the WPA2 challenge, put in the passphrase, then I get the same challenge and I repeat what I just did. I get connected but I get no internet. I perform a diag, and it says it's an issue between the router and the outside. I have followed the instructions given by Comcast as to restarting the modem and the router and such. I've connected to the router via ethernet and reset the router. I then tried to connect hardwired which produced the same result. I get a DHCP address, and supposedly the correct DNS addresses. I try to ping Yahoo with no result. Is there a know issue with this type of wireless router and Win7? Are there any suggestions aside form doing a fresh install of Win7 and essentially re-creating the network? Thank you, C

Hi CCassidy, I would like to suggest you check the cable between the router and the modem first. If it is good, I also would like to suggest you update the router firmware and the network card driver from Linksys website and the HP website. Note: The third-party products discussed here are manufactured by companies that are independent of Microsoft. We make no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding these products' performance or reliability. After that, you may test the issue in Safe Mode with Networking. Whats the result?Arthur Li - MSFT

Please ensure your router is IPv6 enabled/compatible, if your HP laptop is using IPv6 to route traffic first.

Have you tried to do a direct connection to the Comcast cablemodem? If that works, then you may have a variation on a problem that has been sprouting from everywhere. Computers connected to a MS server domain (Server 2003, for example) can logon to the network and have LAN access but no Internet. In some cases the Internet connection is intermittent. So far, I've found many suggestions but not found a solution to this problem. Microsoft has a list of approved routers, but it is not very long.FWIW.
