Can not get remote assistance to XP from Vista
I am having problem tring to provide remote assistance to my relative's PC. I read quite a few posting here and tried so many of them. But I am still having the same problem. Can any expert give me some more hints? Here are what we have:1. Mine is Windows Vista and the other is Windows XP.2. We both use Windows Live Messenger 2009 release.3. At both ends, we checked the options in Control Panel to allow remote assistance.4. His side does not have router and the PC is connected directly through ADSL modem. Mine has a router and I tried both DMZ and port forwarding for 3389.Problem:He estabilised the messenger video call with me. Then he clicked on the "Remote Assistance" in the menu of the Live Messenger chat window. I received the invitation in my chat window and accepted. He then saw a message showing up in his chat window suggeting that I had accepted his invitation. From that point on, nothing happened in either side. We waited quite a while and nothing happened at all. No error, no nothing. Can any expert give some suggestions?1 person needs an answerI do too

I am not sure but I think that if you go through the messenger you need to enable the Routers uPnP since it uses more than one port.If you can Not make it work, tell the other side to download and run Team Viewer, and you do the same it quite easy to use it.http://www.teamviewer.com/download/index.aspx Jack-MVP Windows Networking. But for Wayne. I was just about torecommend TeamViewer too; it's a very easy and good way to do what youwant to do.Ken Blake

Thanks for your replies. But the reason for me to provide the assistance is because the other party knows too little about computers. I am trying to get into his PC to clean up some disk space. So, you can see that he is not able to do anything like TeamViewer. I think Microsoft products should be able to work and it seems others have got them work for theirs. So, I just need some experts help to figure out the configuration stuff.I appreciate recommendation of TeamViewer but it may lose the purpose since Remote Assistance is on the PCs and it is for someone knowledgeable to help someone who knows the minimum.Thanks.
