Can not figure out how to turn off autoarrange on icons in a folder
In Windows XP I have several folders on the desktop with various icons in each folder. With XP I have the auto arrange option turned off and I have the align to grid option selected. Once I have the ICONs arranged like I want them I press CTRL + [red X] to close the window. This essentially locks the window so that all of the icons remain in the relative position that I had them in. With the release candidate of Windows 7 it appears like the auto arrange option is always on. Or let's say that I have not found a way to turn it off. I also have not found an option that functions like the align to grid option. Does anyone know of a way to get the folder displays to function similar to what I do with XP?

No, it is not a feature of Win 7. Only the desktop has those.Rating posts helps other users Mark L. Ferguson MS-MVP

I also really want that option. It makes working soooo much easier.I can't believe that MS actually forgot that several millions of their users likes to work with their computers in a fashion that suits the users. So it has to be a feature that comes in the finished product.I really like 7, but the lack of this feature makes working really frustrating.. to have to go through the alphabet several times an hour just to find the file your looking for, instead of just click on the file in the group order of my decision.

This feature is horrible. I'd love MS to fix this properly so I can turn auto-arrange off!
