Can not connect to router at 1000Mb
HP Pavilion HPE h8z Windows 7 Home Premium (all current updates including update network driver) Router : Cisco RV220W Cable: Cat 6 Brand new system. All network settings on both the PC and router are as "out of the box". The system will not connect at 1000 Mb (1 Gb), even though 2 other system on the same router (1 XP, 1 Linux) connect with no problems. Swapped cable and ports with no difference. And before anyone asks, It DOES have a Realtek Gigabit Ethernet chip on the motherboard.

In Device Manager, please Open the NIC properties and confirm that Link Speed is Auto and not 100Mb. From memory I think the Realtek driver does not have a force to 1Gb option; only Auto, 100 or 10.Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 w/Hyper-V on Dual Xeon E5520 Windows 7 x64 SP1 on Core i7 990X

I concur with Russ_64, check the setting for the network adapter. Then, confirm that you are connected to one of the four LAN ports and not the WAN port. Then both sides will be Auto sensing and connect at 1Gb Start\Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center and click on the the blue letters local area connection.

The NIC is definitely set for Auto Negotiate as is the router. I tried forcing 1Gb, full duplex on both and it did not work, so I set them both back to Auto Negotiate. I also swapped to a port on the router that I know works at 1Gb and swapped in a cable that is known good at 1Gb. No help. For what it is worth, the link is rather slow to come up after a reboot. Maybe an extra 10-20 seconds. (Boot up is fast with a hex core processor!) I'm 99% certain it has never connected at 1Gb.

Well Wiz, Visit device manager, uninstall the device (the NIC), close out and then reboot the computer. Let Windows find and install and configure the device. Sometimes, old wizard spells work

"Is this your computer?" No, but very close (likely the same motherboard) It is a h8-1050z "Does your model have a wireless card" Physically, NO and there is NO phantom wireless in Device Manager. "Are you using this driver-ver 7.046 8\3\2011 for the LAN?" Need to verify. "5th item down-complete installer package-try it" I will when I get on site.

I can not find the specific version you are referring to on the Realtex web site. When you click on the the link for the 8/3/2011 software (UK, HK, and US download sites) what ACTUALLY donloads in the 7.46.610.2011 !!! That version is now installed. Machine has been rebooted. No improvement.

well, you have me stumped. You have a Realtek 8111c ethernet network adapter on-board, the newest driver for Windows 7 installed and it won't auto-connect at 1gb to gigabit port. The other thoughts I have at this point is to temporarily disable the anti-malware software that you are using to determine if it is blocking the connection. Another approach is to try the clean boot process, disabling all non-microsoft services and observing the results.

In the end, it was a hardware problem. HP swapped the motherboard and everything is working.
