Can not change settings for Windows 7 backup
First backup was run successfully with Wizard now can not change backup settings for the source or destination devices, backup will only re-run with the original configuration. Tried procedure from Microsoft.com to change settings for Backup - Restore using the Control Panel, no help. Backup does not recognize the 'Change Settings' command; Is this a known issue, any suggestions? ______________________________________________________________________________________________________ April 11, Modified (edit) This is a multi-drive system, user was trying to create a (source) backup from the non-system [d:] drive. The strategy was to backup the c: and d: drives to each other but it appears backup is preset to backup the system drive only. Windows change setting supports the destination device only, is that correct?

Did you refer the following website? If you click “Change settings” button in Backup and Restore, you will be able to change the location. Why do you that the location is not changed? Please let us know detail symptom. If the drive you would like to select does not exists in the list, you may click the link “Guidelines for choosing backup destination” to get more helps. Please let me know if you found a fix for this. I have the same problem. The only destination I have availble to run back up is the CD drive E: I have an external, I have a USB flash drive. When I go to back up it only shows the CD drive and if you CHANGE SETTINGS the only available drive is the CD drive. YET,..... You go to my computer and you can see the extrernal and the flash drive. Thanks

I have a partial fix. My machine would not run the backup onto the CD drive and would not let me change to the flash drive. So I went several months without a backup. Then I bought an external hard drive, plugged it in, and got a window that allowed me to direct the backup to this new drive. The backup works fine now. I still can't get anything to write onto the CD though. Dell told me that I'll have to reinstall Windows 7. I've been stalling on doing that.

I think I am having the same problem as others but have not seen a fix. when I go to Control Panel | System Security | Backup and Restore, I can see that the backup that I set up appears to have run sucessfully. Under "Schedule:" there is an option to "Change Settings" and it is preceded by a windows symbol which I believe indicates that administrator permission is required. When I click on "Change Settings" though, nothing happens, even though I am logged in as an administrator. (Also, the option for "Manage Space" above that does not work when I click on it either.) So, I cannot sucessfully change my backup options. Any ideas? Thanks

To do what you want you would ned to use the command line wbamdin. Example For C:Drive[ wbadmin start backup -allcritical -backuptarget:\\Machine name\D$\backup\ ] Example For D:Drive[ wbadmin start backup -include:D: -backuptarget:\\Machine name\C$\backup\

I ran into the same type problem just yesterday with an internal Sata drive. Here is how I fixed it. I went into device manager and uninstalled the drive that was not showing up. Then I rebooted. The drive automatically re-installed and was now usable by backup restore. The machine was running windows 7 Enterprise 64 SP1.

it worked for me! All you need is to click on change settings and then hit save on network. From there you can specify the location and logon information. Once you entered then click next and re-select the back up criteria. This will override existing rule and will start taking backup.
