Can not access shared resources
I encountered a problem on my new laptop, I could open a shared folder, say \\servername\sharedfolder when I first got the laptop, after a few days, I can no longer open \\servername\sharedfolder from my laptop, I can open it from a different machine with my login credential, \\servername\sharedfolder is not password protected. I still can ping servername from my laptop, I can also connect to servername using remote desktop connection. This is Windows 7 64-bit, I also use VPN on my laptop at home. I see there is hot fix for this problem but only for Vista or 2008 I am wondering if some one has any clue for this problem. Thanks!

What is the error message when you open it? You may temporary disable firewall when opening the folder. If it does not work, I suggest you check the cached credentials. They are stored under the following Registry key. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SECURITY\CACHE Please remove all the entries under the branch CACHE. If it does not help, you may try to disable credential cache. Then re-enable it. To disable it, configure the following policy. Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Local Policies\Security Options\Network access: Do not allow storage of credentials or .NET Passports for network authentication Hope it helps. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Hello, I have the EXACT same issue. I followed the path above in Regedit and I do not see a Cache folder under Security. Any other fixes this this issue?

I actually corrected the issue after isolating all other possiblities that I could think of or found on the net. It turned out to be a bad MS update for the NIC driver. The symptoms didn't appear to be driver related as everything else worked. Internet, ping, nslookup, etc. I used System Restore to go back two weeks prior to the driver install....and voila!
