Can not access other devices on LAN from my Win 7 PC
On my Win 7 PC I can see all the other devices on my LAN when I click on networking. But I can not click on them to access the folders. When I go into Windows explorer and select nwtworking, only my win7 device shows up.All other devices on the LAN are XP or Vista. Those devices can all see my Win7 device but can't access it.All devices are in the same workgroup.I have been able to access these other devices before from my Win7 device. Sometimes I have to reboot devices or turn off the fiewall on my win7 machine. I turned the firewall completely off but still can not access the other devices.Any idea what the problem is?

Have you tried turning on Network Discoveries under the Networking and Sharing section? Can the Vista and XP Machine see each other?

YesNetwork Discoveries is on.Yes the Vista and XP machines can see each other as well as see the win7 machine. In fact I can move files using my Vista machine from my XP box to my Win7 box.I just can't do it from my win7 box. I need another device to do it.

Hi Entrack, I would like to confirm the following questions first: 1. What was the error message when you tried to access the folders? 2. Did you change anything before the issue first occurred? 3. How did you move files using the Windows Vista machine from the Windows XP machine to the Windows 7 machine? Based on the current situation, I would like to suggest you run System Restore on the Windows 7 computer. If it does not work, I also would like to suggest you test the issue in Safe Mode with Networking. Arthur_U I can't see the folders from my win7 box to access them so obviously there is no error message. I can move files using windows explorer using the Windows Vista machine from the Windows XP machine to the Windows 7 machine.

AuthurWhich results are you referring to.I don't want to do a system restore. Also, somedays it works and some days it doesn't. I can't determine what causes it to decide not to see the other devices in Win explorer but I do see them in 'see full map' under newtworking but can't access them.

Hi, Since you do not want to perform the System Restore, I would like to confirm what is the result in Safe Mode with Networking? In addition, have you tried the steps to share the files with the computers running different versions of Windows? I also wonder do you receive the error message similar as “0x80070005 Access Denied” when trying to access the sharing files? Regards,Arthur Li - MSFT

ArthurYes I tried the steps to share the files with the computers running different versions of Windows. They are all using the same workgroup. Everything is shared obviously because they can all access each others files. The other devices can even access the Win7 device files. I just can't access it from the win7 device itself. However the Win7 machine can SEE all other devices on LAN with 'see full map' under newtworking. When would I receive an error message similar as “0x80070005 Access Denied” ? I can't see the PCs to try to access them. What results are you looking for in safe mode?
