Can not access my C drive or My Documents folder Windows XP__
Running Windows XP, Profesional Version ,SP3. I modified the security settings on my system to block what I thought was outside access to my C Drive and MY Documents folder. Since then I can not access my C drive or My Documents folder. I am the administrator. There is no windows sign on PW for my system. When I try to access the C Drive or Documents folder I get the message "Operation has been cancelled due to restrictions on this computer. See Administrator". I thought that I was the administrator. I also can not access administrator under control panel. I am at a loss as to how to get out of this problem. Please Help. Luke -

Possibly a System Restore will fix it:Run System Restore from Recovery Console -http://ramanathan.wordpress.com/2007/12/21/system-restore-from-recovery-console/MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!

I tried the System Restore from the Recovery Console. I got to the point of renaming the windows systems files and the first result indicated that the path name was not complete so I added \C: to the front of the path name in the ren command. (ren \ c:\ windows\system32\config\software \windows\system32\config\software.bak) After I did this the ren command returned a Access Denied result. I can not name change the files. If there is a solution to this do I also need to change the security snapshot as I believe that this is the cause of my access denied problem?Should I reinstall XP? Thank you for any help you can give me.Luke in PA

The only way I know to change the security settings is from outside the system. Possibly you can do it with a Bart's PE. You might want to post on a Bart's user forum to see if it can be done. I don't use Bart's; the rescue utility I use isn't available to end users - sorry. Otherwise unless someone else here has an idea for you, back up your data and reinstall Windows. Then if you need help securing your system, please post back with full details.http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/ - Bart's PE BuilderI'm sorry I didn't have the answer for you.MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!
