Can no longer see XP machine on LAN
I am suddenly no longer able to see my XP machine on the LAN under Network. Likewise, I cannot see my W7 machine from XP. It was working fine and allowing me to share files for months.I've rebooted both machines to no avail. Both machines have access to the internet, so it's not like a disconnected cable and probably not a router problem.any hint appreciated.

hmm, it seems I CAN access the other machine. If I open a console and type in dir \\machinename\share it does work. I just can't browse using win explorer (it does not show under network)

In Windows Explorer, type in the location (\\Desktopfor example) in the address bar, and you will them see it listed under Network. The only trouble is, it does not "stick" after a reboot

I suggest that you try the following things. 1. Check and make sure that Network Discovery, File Sharing are enabled. 2. Temporary disable the anti-virus and firewall. If the issue persists, enter ipconfig /all > %userprofile%\Desktop\ipconfig.txt in command prompt, then open the file ipconfig.txt on Desktop, paste the contents in your post. Arthur Xie - MSFT

churin, could you also post the output of ipconfig /all from one of your XP machines? Also, have you installed the LLTD Responder (if you have SP3 installed, you'll need to request it as a hotfix from here) on your XP machines? If not, do so, as it should help with your issue a bit. What are you running for antivirus and firewall software on each machine?-Chris[If this post helps to resolve your issue, please click the "Mark as Answer" or "Helpful" button at the top of this message. On your Windows 7 computer, did you network connection change from Home/Work to Public? If so, that could explain why you are no longer to see your XP machines. If that is the case, the next question is why did your network information change?

Thanks Cris for your response. I formally attempted to install LLTD Responder(KB922120) on WX64-SP1 box but error message said that it was for different hardware platform, and could not install. The WX86-SP3 box said it is already installed. Norton AVs are installed on all boxes but they are disabled for this trouble shooting. Hi, Norton is hard to be disabled. Some background programs will still run even after you disable the program. To test if Norton is the root cause, I suggest that you temporary remove the programs on both computers. Then ensure that advanced sharing settings are correct. Check the result and let us know. If the issue does not occur this time, you may need to change some settings in the Norton programs. In this case I suggest that you contact Symantec support. Chris, Darien and Arthur: Let me state the facts about my LAN which may indirectly answer the quentions asked and be clues for solution: 1) There are 4 boxes each running WV64-sp2rc, WV86-sp1, WX64-sp1 or WX86-sp3. Among them there is no access problem with all the firewalls and AVs turned on. 2) One of the 4 machines is a dual-boot system for WV64-sp2rc or W7-7057. When the OS on this box is switched from WV64-sp2rc to W7, then (1)W7 can see and access only WV86. (2)WX64 and WX87 can see and access W7. (3)W7 can still RDC(Remote Desktop Connection) to WX64 or WX86.

Known bug in 7057:Google searchfor "win 7 7057 does not see XP in workgroup"Workaround: type the full network path (\\computername\sharename) into the address bar in Explorer.FYI: to maintain and protect the integrity of the Beta, these forums (as well as the Feedback Tool) only support Build 7000.-Chris[If this post helps to resolve your issue, please click the "Mark as Answer" or "Helpful" button at the top of this message.
