i am unable to find local users and groups or group policy editor in windows 7 Home Premium Computer.Is there any way to add these two things in to Home Premium computer

as far as I know you can. Have you tried to run -> gpedit.msc [enter]? About local users/groups, let's try to run MMC and click on File-Add/Remove Snap-in If you want more administrative tools, you can also download and install Windows RSAT. About two groups that you have mentioned - they should already be included in your edition. Let's try if it worked for you.

Hi, gpedit.msc is not available in the Home editions of Windows. If you want to have policies applied to such systems, you would have to export the registry keys done by such policies or create them manually and import them on the home edition machine. You can create user accounts in Control Panel/User Accounts or in command prompt with the net user command. For creating and administering groups you would have to open a cmd prompt (As Administrator) and use the command net localgroup. I.e.: net localgroup Gamers /add creates a group Gamers, net localgroup Gamers Player /add would add the user Player to the group Gamers. More info with net localgroup /? Thank you for your reply.. i have the scenario like i have to allow users to change the ip address through .bat files. in windows xp we have "network configuration operators" group to allow this operations.We have few laptops that are running with windows Home premium.But in Home editions microsoft has not provided any group like that..is there any way to solve this problem..

you can find it in the MMC but it doesn't allow you to add it on and I would like to know why this as more "local users" actually have degrees or are working on degrees in the computer field and I loved having this option in XP pro but now it seems to be unavailable and i would really like to know why as it a good tool for controlling kids profiles and such

It was available in XP Professional, as you said, but not in XP Home edition. This has not changed in Windows 7, available in Professional and higher and not available in Home versions. Best greetings from Germany Olaf
