Can connect to domain via static IP/DNS but not DHCP in Windows 7 Professional
I have a brand new laptop my business ordered for one of our sales people that has Windows 7 Professional on it. This occurs in both wired and wireless connections. The laptop can connect fine to other wired/wireless connections that are not coming from our internal LAN. I tried to connect it to our domain and I get the following error: --------------- An Active Directory Domain Controller (AD DC) for the domain "xyz" could not be contacted. Ensure that the domain name is typed correctly. ---------------- If I put in a static IP and DNS addresses it works fine. All my other laptops work fine on the network. Including the 2 Windows 7 professional ones I added about 2 months ago almost. I have tried flushing the dns, release/renew the IP, even did an OS reinstall on this system. The following is what I get for the ipconfig /all on the laptop in question: ------------------------------ Windows IP Configuration Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : EJC115 Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . : Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Hybrid IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No DNS Suffix Search List. . . . . . : xyz Wireless LAN adapter Wireless Network Connection: Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : xyz Description . . . . . . . . . . . : DW1501 Wireless-N WLAN Half-Mini Card Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 68-A3-C4-6B-04-EC DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : xyz Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit Controlle r Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 78-2B-CB-E1-D3-18 DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.142(Preferred) Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : Friday, April 08, 2011 3:56:21 PM Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : Saturday, April 09, 2011 3:56:21 PM Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1 DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1 DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.2.35 NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . : Enabled Tunnel adapter isatap.xyz.com: Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : xyz Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Microsoft ISATAP Adapter #2 Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-00-00-00-00-00-00-E0 DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes Tunnel adapter Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface: Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-00-00-00-00-00-00-E0 DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes Does anyone have any thoughts on what is causing this?

Hi, Regarding the issue, I recommend that run CMD as administrator , then use “ ipconfig / registerdns”.Then check whether can connect to domain. If the issue persists, check the following: 1. Do you use DHCP server to help client register to its preferred DNS server? You can check this by the steps: a. Open your DHCP server in the Administrator Tools. b. Right-click the scope which involving the problematic client in the left console tree and select Properties. c. Find DNS Tab, ensure you get-in the option “Always dynamically update DNS A and PTR records.” 2. If your configuration match 1, then check if your credentials in your DHCP is the same in the other DHCP servers and have the full control in DC. To check this, a. In the DHCP, right-click IPv4 and choose Properties. b. Find the Advanced Tab, and click Credentials. c. Ensure your credentials is a useful one in the corresponding domain and the same as the other DHCP servers. d. Ensure your credentials have full control in the domain members. 3. If your credentials on each DHCP is not the same one as 2, please add all of your DHCP server’s user name and password into the DNSUpdateProxy Group. To do this, a. Click Start , point to Programs , point to Administrative Tools , and then click Active Directory Users and Computers . b. In the console tree, double-click the domain node. c. Double-click the Users folder. d. In the details pane, right-click the group and click Properties . e. Click the Members tab, then click Add . f. Click Look in to display a list of domains from which users and computers can be added to the group and click the domain containing the server you want to add. g. Click the server to be added and then click Add .
