Can Windows 7 Professional join an NT4 domain?
I am trying to add our first Windows 7 machine to our domain. My servers are still NT4 - yes I know that is really old. When I put in the domain information, I get "The following error occurred attempting to join the domain "xxxxx": The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted."I do not even KNOW if I am attempting the impossbile because my servers are old. I do not have the funds to upgrade them at this time. If I put my domain name in as a workgroup name, I can at least SEE the other computers, but I can't connect to a single one, which does me absolutely no good.Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi, You could not join a Windows 7 client to Windows NT 4.0 domain. For more information, please refer to: Error message when you try to join a Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, or Windows Server 2008 R2-based computer to a Windows NT 4.0 domain: "Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password" Windows NT 4.0 domain join is not supported with Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 However, if your Windows 7 is Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise, or Ultimate Edition, I think you can also try to add Windows XP Mode to the Windows NT 4.0 domain. To get Windows XP Mode, please go to: Download Windows XP Mode Hope this helps. Thanks.Nicholas Li - MSFT
