Can WRT54G and XP Run with WINDOWS/7 on same network?
I run a home wireless network using a LINKSYS WRT54G 2.4GH, connecting a desktop computer and a notebook, both running WINDOWS/XP SP3. The notebook recently crashed and I need to replace it soon. The desktop is running OK but is also quite old and will probably need to be replaced fairly soon. I haven't done much in the way of shopping so I don't have a strong sense of the prices involved in either replacement. Assuming that I can't replace both systems more-or-less at the same time, because of the costs, I probably need to replace the notebook now and wait to replace the desktop. Assuming that sequence:-- What networking hardware issues will there be so that the new notebook can co-exist with the WRT54G? Would it be feasible (and smarter) to replace the WRT54G now with something that could be used both now and in the future when the desktop is replaced?-- Should I look for a notebook that comes with XP and is upgradable (at a reasonable cost) to 7? Or will it be possible to run with 7 on the notebook while I'm still running XP on the desktop? I don't think running 7 on the desktop is an option because it has limited memory, although I suppose I could upgrade the memory. Should I even consider that?Should I cross-post this to some other WINDOWS forum? TIA,Phil1 person got this answerI do too

HiWireless Cable/DSL Routers are stand alone devices that support any computer that have Ethernet (wire or wireless) networking capacity. All versions of Windows + Apple + Linux can run together while connecting to a Router like the WRT54, and or newer End-user Wireless Routers.
