Can Outlook 2007 .pst (including IMAP) be shared on a WinXP/Win7 dual boot system?
I am migrating from Win XP Pro/32 to Win 7 Pro/64. I am dual booting between the two while I migrate and test apps. While testing, I would like to have Outlook 2007 use the same mail/calendar/contacts/... on both systems. Two of the mail files are IMAP which seems to make the process more difficult. Can this be done?Thanks!1 person got this answerI do too

This absolutely can happen. I do it.Before you do anything, make a copy of your default PST. None of what I'm about to describe should affect your data in any way, but you can't be too safe. You don't have to worry about the IMAP accounts. IMAP accounts always have their own folder sets but since the data is kept on the server, both Outlooks will see the same data. In order to see your default folders, while Outlook's closed (on either partition), move the PST to a folder both partitions can see. I have two partitions (XP on one and 7 on the other) on my main drive and I put my PST in a folder on a second drive. After moving the PST, start Outlook. It will complain that it can't see its folders and give you a file browser window. Browse to the new location of your default PST, select it, and click OK. Outlook will open and look exactly as it did before.Close Outlook and boot to the other partition. Open the Mail applet in Control Panel (you may have to enable the 32 bit Control Panels), click the Data Files button, click Add and browse to the shared PST. Select it and click OK. Now click Set as Default to make it the delivery location. This will make the default folders (Calendar, Contacts, Inbox, etc.) the same for the second partition. Close the Control Panel and start Outlook. You should see exactly what you saw on the other partition. You'll also see the old PST, if you has one configured, and you can move any data you want saved form the old default folders into the new default folders by opening each folder, selecting all the data with Ctrl+A and moving the selection. (You can use Copy instead if you want to have the original PST as a partial backup.) For the Calendar, you'll have to choose a table view like By Category before Ctrl+A will work.Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook]
