I can view the 7 (Pro) files on the XP (Pro) pc but not the other way around. When I try to connect it gives me this message:I've tried using every username and password I can think of but it won't let me access the XP computer.Notice the writing at the bottom:'Logon Failure: unknown user name or bad password'Here's what I've tried so far:1. Turned off password protected sharing2. Added the pc's to the same workgroup3. Tried using the second option "use another account"4. Turned off Firewall in XP and Win 75. Set the following services to start automatically; DNS Client, Function Discovery Resource Publication, SSDP Discovery, and UPnP Device Host services and TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper service.Any ideas?

Do you have a password on the active accounts on both PC's?? If not set them now test.Did you select ........."Use user accounts and passwords to connect to other computers" or not??Enter in the win 7 boxes user / password

Hi, Since the Windows XP PC can access files on the Windows 7 laptop, we can eliminate the Windows 7 network settings cause. This issue can occur by incorrect Windows XP network settings. At this stage, you can perform the following steps to troubleshoot the issue on Windows XP machine. 1. Temporarily disable firewall on Windows XP machine. 2. Assure the following services are started: Computer Browser, Server, Workstation 3. Perform a Clean Boot in Windows XP. 4. Enable simple file sharing and Guest account. a. I have similar issues.3 computers - XPHome, XPPro and W7.The XPHome is my "main" computer and has a printer that I share to my home network as well as a music library that is also shared. The 'Pro connects fine but there are issues with the W7.If I connect to the music share it appears to hang. If I connect to a share that is empty, except for a few subdirectories (sorry - folders) I can see the folder names. I can also place files into the folders and if W7 put them there it can also see the file names. The host computer can play any music put there by W7 - so I know that share is at least partially working, but if I try to play the same music files on the W7 machine - again it appears to hang.I am using "net view" and "net use" commands, but can see all three computers (and shares) on the network map of W7. If I do the same test to shares on the XPPro from W7 it works fine. At this time the solution seems to be that I make the XPPro my main machine or find a way to upgrade my XPHome to XPPro. Unfortunately that will likely become a licensing problem for me. - - - Oh yeah, on my MCAFEE, when I try to invite the W7 to join the managed network, the W7 accepts, the playing cardes are displayed on both machines but the ack from the XPHome never gets to W7 and the process times out. rw
