Can I use iSCSI to remap My Documents and other special folders and use indexing
I am currently using a Snap Server in a Windows XP environment. I have remapped all of my special folders (My Documents, My Pictures, My Music, and My Videos) to network drives. This system works without a hitch. When I tried to do the same thing with Windows 7, I ran into problems. The network drives were not indexable, programs would stall during installation because they considered the mapped drives invalid, and defaulting programs such as Word to open in My Documents only had them open in the local drive. If I were to change the Snap Server to iSCSI storage would these problems go away in Windows 7? This problem with network drives is why I will not upgrade to Windows 7 as I keep all of my personal files on my network. Matthew

Hi Matthew, Please try the following and see if you can and this network drive to the Index Location: 1. Click Start, type “indexing options” (without quotations) in Search Bar and press Enter. 2. Click Modify. 3. To add a location, select its check box for your external hard drive in the Change selected locations list, and then click OK. If you don't see all of the locations on your computer in the Change selected locations list, click Show all locations. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. In addition, I would like to share the following with you for your reference: Content Indexed by Windows Search Windows Search 4.0 Troubleshooting Guide Hope this helps. Thanks. Nicholas Li - MSFT
