Can I upgrade from vista to 7 for free?
I was talking to a friend of mine the other day and he mentioned that he upgraded his vista to 7 for free because he bought his new pc in the summer and it came with vista. I also bought a laptop during the summer for school and it came with vista. I've tried searching for this around the internet but came up with nothing. Does anyone know if this is true and if so, can I still upgrade it? Where exactly do I need to go to upgrade it?

Many of the larger OEM PC vendors participated, but not all. Also, I believe you had to purchase the new system sometime in June or later. Contact your PC vendor and ask if you qualify.

First port of call is the manufacturer website pertaining to your laptop. Check the customer support section there. If the laptop you purchased entitles you to a free upgrade to windows 7, it is the manufacturer's responsibility to provide you with the upgrade, and the manufacturer will provide details of the procedures you need to follow to claim it. Different manufacturers may provide different procedures for their customers to follow.
