Can I hide my windows 7 product key so it will not be displayed and cannot be copied?
Our volume license for XP was copied and used to validate unauthorized copies. What inovations are available to us to prevent this in windows 7? Don't ask me any hard questions

To the best of my knowledge, your Product Key isn't displayed anywhere in Win7. Both System Properties and systeminfo (command-line tool) display the Product ID, yes; this is not the same as the Key.-Chris[If this post helps to resolve your issue, please click the "Mark as Answer" or "Helpful" button at the top of this message. Do you mean that user uses certain third party tool to view the product key on the computer? Do you also use volume license on the Windows 7?Sean Zhu - MSFT

An old unanswered thread with the same issue I'd like to pursue. Is it possible to prevent the product key from being viewed if someone is to use a third party software? I'm interested in an answer for Win7 Pro. I guess applocker could be used in Win7 Ultimate or Enterprise. -Steven

Yes. That is correct. This is a win 7 volumn license also. We are being vigilent but it would be nice if we didn't have to worry about it.Don't ask me any hard questions

AppLocker is a feature within Windows 7 Enterprise and Ultimate that can control the execution of applications on a particular desktop. This feature can prevent third party software from being run. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/2009.05.win7.aspx
