Can I have many image backups on windows 8.1?

I am using the image backup feature in windows 8.1 to create a
backup of my system. However. If I try to create a new one, the first
one is overwritten. So i create a new one, rename it and create a second
one. However, when I want to restore an image, I have only one image
avaiable, the image that is not renamed.

So my doubt is, can I have multiple images on windows 8.1?

thank so much.

Hi ComptonAlvaro,

In this situation, we suggest you Do not store the image on the same physical disk as the OS.

We recommend to use a dedicated backup disk, this could be the best choice for stable backup.

Yes, I know that is better to use a different disk to store the backup, but in this case I prefer to do it in the same disk, because in this way the user can restore the image easier. The backup is not so critical to need to store in another disk.

Also, if I would use an external disk, I have the same doubt, I create the first image, that is stored in WindwosImageBackup in the root of the external disk. I want to create the second image, this second image by default will overwrite the first one.

If I understand correctly, I need to actvate the shadow copy in the partition that I want to use to store the backup. Well, how I can do it?

Thank so much.

of course, you can create multiple images, but when a new system image is created, older data will be moved to the shadow copy storage area if its available. You can do a disk backup, which can help you restore data well, or create a bootable disc by windows built-in backup utility or third-party backup  software, i used aomei backupper: http://www.backup-utility.com/ Like this, if you create a first image, then create a second one, the new image cannot be overwritten, and can ensure your data security well.

But by default shadow copy is not enabled. So I would like to know how can I actvate this feature, and I don't know how to do it.

Hi ComptonAlvaro,

As the Wbadmin start recovery command deprecate from Windows 8.1, so there is no other way to get multiple versions of system image back. Although WbAdmin start backup still works.

See the picture:

Here is the workaround for this scenario:

Scheduled system image backup windows 8.1

When I Schedule the creation of the image backup. It will overwritten the last image or keep it and create a new one?

Well, what I have is a 1Tb hard drive, 200GB for Windows in the C: partition and 800GB in the D: partition for data (NTFS). I am storing my backups in the D: partition. In my D: partition I have about 750GB of free space.

In  this scenario, can I have multiple image backups? How?

Because if I try to crate the first partion and later I try tu crate a second partition, I am said that the image first image can be overwritten.

There are any manual or tutorial when is explained how to do this? or could you explain a bit more how could I do it?

Thank you so much.
