Can't transfer 150MB file from network to new Win7 Pro client
I have a brand new Win7 Pro laptop that I have added to my office network (SBS2003 running my domain). Intra-office network connection looks to operate flawlessly for navigating network drives, copying small files, etc. However, when I attempt to copy and paste a large exe file (~150MB) from a network drive to the local Win7 machine so that we can run the file locally I encounter problems. The copy/paste process looks like it starts off fine every time (~150-200KB/sec for the first 2 seconds) then it immediately slows to a crawl (<20KB/sec). After letting the process run for several minutes, it always errors out and says that the server is unavailable. I see the same behavior whether the computer is connected via Ethernet or Wireless connection. I have tried pushing the file from my domain controller and pulling the file from the local machine, but it always errors out before even 20% of the file can be transferred. After researching this issue, I have attempted several fixes (one at a time) including stopping/disabling BITS, disabling IPv4 Checksum Offload on the network adapter, and turning off autotuning. My issue seems to be different than the multitude of other "slow transferring copy" posts in that my file NEVER completes. It always errors out after several minutes. How do I get these large files transferred?

Hi, What is the exact error message? Did this issue occur to other Windows 7 clients? Can you get any information form Event Viewer? I would like to suggest you try the process monitor to troubleshoot: Troubleshooting with Process Monitor Hope it helps. Alex, The exact error message is as follows: "An unexpected error is keeping you from copying the file..." and then it gives me an error code: 0x8007003B: Unexpected Network Error. This is the only Win7 client we own, so I cannot test the error on other machines. I can verify, however, that all XP clients in our office are able to copy the same file from the same network location without error. I do not see any relevant information in the Event Viewer. I have downloaded Process Monitor and reproduced the error with the tool running, but I was unable to find any helpful information. What else should I try? Tim

Hi, Where is the network location? Is it a shared folder? How about other locations? You could try to disable the SMB2.0 on the windows 7 client for test: sc config lanmanworkstation depend= bowser/mrxsmb10/nsi sc config mrxsmb20 start= disabled For a test, you could try to boot into safe mode with networking to check how it works. Hope it helps. Alex ZhaoPlease remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
