Can't share network printer!
Little background...I've installed the windows 7 beta on three home machines (1 desktop, 2 laptop). The problem is I can't figure out how to install a network printer. Its an HP Officejet 6210 and its connected via usb to my desktop. I've enabled file and printer sharing and the laptops can both SEE the printer, but they refuse to connect. I've tweaked so many settings but i can't get them to connect. I've heard there is a problem with the vista drivers not being compatible with W7 but it works just fine when physically connected to a pc.Can anyone help me figure out how to get this done?

HiIn addition to enabling of file and printer sharing advanced sharing options you must share frinter by itself from devices and printers control panel item ( Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Devices and Printers ). Right click printer you want to share, then click printer properties, then go to sharing tab and click change sharing options buttonAfter printer is installed and shared on computer to which it is connected you must install it on all of computers you want to be able to print from. When you install printer on remote computers (in your case both laptops) select to install it as remote printer, then if printer cannot be found automatically, browse to it or type network path to printer.

I had a similar problem. I made a test network. When the printer is hooked to laptop which has wireless I discovered I was able to print from any location on network. When it was hooked to wired desktop Only the laptop which had vista could print the 2 laptops with windows 7 could not. Note. the desktop has windows 7 also. 3 windows 7 1 windows vista. I think it may be a problem with the beta. Try my test by plugging printer into laptop. Now use another laptop it should print. Then when hooked back to wired desktop is should fail to connect. I get 0x00000721 error when attempting to connect. I even tried built in diagnostics to try to repair network. I tried setting up a homegroup no luck. I also tried disabling UAC no luck. I believe it is a problem with beta. Im not Master IT but my test was valid it proves some configuration on laptop is different than a desktop with network sharing.

I had a similar problem with the hp deskjet 720c on the rc When I tried to access the wireless computer over the network, it asked me for a password. I didn't have one on the computer, so I went and made one on both computers. When I was on the wireless computer, on the left side of windows explorer, I clicked on network, then on the name of the wired computer. Then, after I typed in the password that I just made, something caught my eye. Along with all the folders and drives, was an printer icon that was labeled 'hp deskjet 720C' (this is all in windows explorer). I double clicked on it, and it installed the printer. I then went to Devices and printers and saw a printer labeled "Hp Deskjet 720C on (comuter name) - PC". (When I added the printer using the 'Add a printer' function, the printer was named "HP Deskjet 720C"). I removed the printer named "HP Deskjet 720C" and set the one labeled "Hp Deskjet 720C on (comuter name) - PC" as the default printer. I then printed a test page from open office and WOOHOOO!!!.

I too had a similar problem with the RTM version of Windows 7. I installed Windows 7 x64 on a 64-bit Dell laptop,on a private network with a Windows Vista x64 machine and both machines belong to a workgroup called Gar_Lan. Ihave an HP all in one printer attached via USB to the 64-bit Vista machine. From Vista, I share the printer and the Windows 7 machine could connect to it and install it as the default printer and everything printed fine. I did all of this logged on as an administrator account on both Vista and Windows 7. However, when I logged onto the Windows 7 machine as a Standard User, it connected to the printer just fine but simply would not print with an error that read 'the print spooler service is not running on the print server'. I checked it on the Vista machine and the service was running normally. In Windows 7 under Devices and Printers, the HP printer was there but its status was shown as "offline". After a lot of investigating, I was able to 'fix' the problem simply by deleting the printer (that was installed with an administrator account) and reinstalled it using the Standard User account (on the Windows 7 machine) and the printer immediately went to "ready state" -I was able to print the test page and print from Office 2007 applications. The only thing I have noticed, is that after Windows 7 returns from sleep mode (and log on as a Standard User), the printer returns to 'offline' state and I can get it to return to 'Ready' state, simply by browsing my local workgroup to the Vista machine and double clicking on the shared printer and Windows 7 shows it as 'ready' - prints fine. I suspect the Administrator account versus the Standard User account since my work group also has a RTM version of Windows 7 x86 running on a separate 32-bit laptop and I log onto it with an Administrator account all the time and I have no problems printing with Windows 7 RTM from there works every timeDon't know if this will help anyone but it is working for me...
