Can't share folders with photo frame and Audiotron
I have a computer loaded with Windows 7 on a network with one other computer running Windows XP, a wireless digital photoframe and an old Audio netwrok digital music player. The audiotron and photframe are having issues playing content shared on the Windows 7 box. This setup worked fine when the Windows 7 box was loaded with Win XP Pro. I have been able to look at the shared content on the Win 7 box just fine with the computer running XP. The frame and the audiotron can "see" the Win 7 box on the netwrk, they just cannot access the content, music and photos, being shared on the Win 7 box. The audiotron error code is "access to host denied". The frame just displays a blnak listing of the content available on the Win 7 box.I have tried numerous combinations of sharing seetings within the Homegroup, advanced sharing options, etc. Can someone just give a a concise list of the settings that are necessary to share files from Win 7 folders?

However, no dice.Network discovery is on; file and printer sharing on; password protected sharing off; added Everyone with read permission on folderIt is puzzling to me that the audio tron device can "see" the Win 7 box but it cannot access any shared folders even the public folders on the Win 7 box.; and yes, I have turned off the windows firewall and the AVG free i am using with the beta does not contain a firewall either. I wonder if there is some low level communication issue between the audiotron and Win 7 that wasn't present in Win XP. From my understanding, the audiotron uses simple windows networking protocols; there is no custom server software involved. However, the device is quite old 5-6 years and based on Win CE. I am at a loss at this point.

I have the same problem. I've left the homegroup, and still, my audiotron get's a message "access denied".I've done a whole lot of things to try to get the audiotron access, including:- turning off the firewall (did nothing)- creating a separate admin account for the audiotron (did nothing)- changing the permissions on the folder to be completely wide open (did nothing)- using the guest account (did nothing)- sharing the folder with everyone with full access (did nothing)- creating a new folder on a separate drive (did nothing)I'm lost now. I'm thinking about going back to Windows Home Server. This is pretty sad. I'd like to get this resolved, cause otherwise I like Windows 7 quite well.

I think Microsoft changed some very low level networking protocols in Vista and Windows 7 that is creatingthese problems. There were some additional help FAQ's on the Audiotron website that addressed these issues but they were of no help either. In the end, I saw the writing on the wall for the auditron and unplugged it after many years of good use. I got a Squeezebox Duet at a Circuit City liquidation and now use it. It can also be used with Home Server as well. I really had quit using the audiotron after Turtlebeach shut down their internet radio station server. So sad. It was a great product.

I had this issue and here is how i fixed it.1) Turn OFF password protected sharing.2) Set permissions on Shared folder you want Audiotron to access.3) For any other shared folders, ensure that permissions are set so that only the people that you want to access the folder canaccess it.4) Apply everything, and re-search for the files in Audiotron. You should be good to go. When Password protected sharing is on, it seems that only people with an account on the machine can access the shares. I thought that supplying MACHINE\AccountName, password in audiotron configwould work, but not so.Hope this helps.Donnie Wishard

I had the same problem and I did what you suggested with turning off Password protection and this solved my problem as well!THANKS!Ok, Quick update. I was a little quick on this.I made these changes and was now able to get access to the share on my Windows 7 machine, and I can look up the title, artist, song (etc) on my Audiotron and select it to play. Unfortunately, when I hit "play", it get's the song, but does not get past 1 second; it never plays the song, but seems to be attempting to stream the song, then after a while, it goes onto the next song to attempt to play (same thing) and so on, until it gets to the end of the queue. My assumption is that it is able to see the share, but unable to stream the music from the share.I can access the share from my laptop and also play the songs from that, so, I am assuming that this is related to the audiotron.Any thoughts?? Also, I just updated the Audotron to the latest version of software (3.225) and same situation. See the share, but cannot play it.THANKS

I've turned off password protected sharing but I'm still getting " Share access denied". - Do I still use a " Windows NT / 2000 / XP" user name and password in the AudioTron Web Server's " File Access Settings" ? - Do I still create a corresponding user and password in Windows 7? - Do I then "share with" ... "specific people" and specify the user account I created in Windows 7, ex. atron? - Does this user need more than read privileges? Thanks for any help. Don't want to put the AudioTron on the scrap heap just yet.

I had similar problems with my Audiotron when I upgraded to Vista. For a technical description of the problem see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/823659 In summary I needed to edit the registry for the following values: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\LmCompatibilityLevel = 0 and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\NoLmHash = 0 then do a password cycle on the Audiotron. Note that I didn't need to turn off password protected sharing. Please let me know if this works in Windows 7 because I'll be performing an upgrade from Vista shortly and I'd hate to lose Audiotron access to the server.

Setting the above and changing the password for the account that the audiotron connects to on the Windows 7 side seems to have gotten it to work. Thanks!

just a little puzzled by the last comment above. I'm running W7 Professional and can't get the Audiotron to work. It can see the share but gets a error code of 50.Of the two registry values above, the field LmCompatibilityLevel doesn't exist in W7, so how did you set it? Or is this something that only exists in W7 Ultimate??I've done most of the things above as far as configuring W7 goes (network discovery on, file and printer sharing on, public folder sharing, password off, set share on Music folder) and can happily access the shares from an XP PC just not from the auditron so a bit puzzled that others have got their Audiotrons working

On my W7 Ultimate install, LmCompatibilityLevel was set to 2. If that value does not exist, you will want to create one. In regedit, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\ Right click on the right pane, and create a new DWORD value. Set the name to LmCompatibilityLevel And set the value data to 0 as base Hexadecimal. I changed the password for the user that the Audiotron connects to for good measure and rebooted W7. This worked for me, but YMMV
November 4th, 2009 4:57pm

thanks. Tried that but didn't work. On my Vista system the Audiotron worked without having to change the registry keys. Bit odd that you do that and it fixes your problem but others just set standard W7 sharing options and off they go.

I don't know if this will make a difference, but you might want to turn on Media Streaming in your Home/Work/Public sharing options. Go to Control Panel -> Network and Internet -> Network and Sharing Center On the left menu, click on "Change advanced sharing settings" Under the Home/Work/Public options, go to Media Streaming and allow media streaming -- I don't have access to my Win7 install right now, so I can't verify the exact steps -- I made a few changes before trying the above 2 registry entries, allow media streaming was one of those changes. Hope that helps.

Turned on media streaming but still get error 50 on the Audiotron. The Audiotron can see the share but that is as far as it gets.

Sorry to hear that it's still not working for you. But it can be done, so there is hope. By the way, what is Error 50? Is that "Share Access Denied"? I made various changes to the Network security in the Local Security Policy editor (Control Panel -> Admin Tools -> Local Security Policy, Security Settings -> Local Policies -> Security Options). I don't know exactly which ones I changed, but I guess you can just do a trial and error.
November 6th, 2009 5:59pm

error 50 is some sort of problem communicating with the host, I assume a network issue of some kind. It's different to 'Access Denied'.I played around withe the security options. I did occasionally get 'Access Denied' rather than Error 50 but now I'm back to error 50. I discovered I had someone-else's recommended settings from 2007 for Vista so I worked through those.I'll leave for awhile and see if anyone-else comes up with handy hints.thanks

I had error 50 for awhile and now have the Audiotron working. Check the Audiotron's network history to see if the IP address it's using for your share is correct. Even though my share was at 192.168.1.250, the Audiotron kept resolving my computer name to something like 68.150.62.140. This generated an error 50 when attempting to play music in the shared music folder. Appears the Audiotron first attempts to find the IP address using DNS. Unfortunately my ISP's DNS server kept returning the incorrect address. What you want is for it to locate your share's IP address using NetBIOS. So I needed to figure out how to force the Audiotron to ignore the DNS result and proceed to locate an IP address via NetBIOS. I solved it by setting a static IP on the Audiotron. When doing so, I used 0.0.0.0 as the DNS server address. This results in no DNS results being found and forces the Audiotron to use NetBIOS. This correctly then located my share IP address and all was well. Hope this solves your problem. BTW, I only had this problem when I moved to Windows 7. I had it working fine under Vista and XP before that w/o having to do this.

I too have the same problem. Tried all the above solutions and rolled back November security updates. Finds share, finds music files, but won't play. Just skips from one mp3 to the next. Started doing this 2 days ago. Have 2 Audiotrons with the last firmware TurtleBeach issued. Three computers running W7 64 bit. Old laptop running XP 32 bit works. Not giving up on Audiotrons. They are on 2 high end sound sytems. Other players I've connected just don't have the same sound quality. Gonna nurse the old laptop til the Audiotrons die. Which I hope is never. Throw us a bone Microsoft. Please.

Update to 12/3 post. The laptop running XP 32 bit started doing the same thing. It hadn't been used for some time. It downloaded and installed the updates automatically. Rolling them back didn't work. I realize Microsoft is concerned with security and rightly so. But they are preventing legitimate applications from running.

After trying the other changes with no success, I made performed the changes that you recommended (allow NetBios), still no music. Then I changed DNS to 0.0.0.0 and VOILA -- MUSIC!!!!THANKS for this suggestion!!
December 24th, 2009 7:51pm

Here is the solution I used...I found this a year or two back for Vista and just got it to work on Windows 7. No other changes were needed (Homegroup, etc. I left as is). The steps in Bold are the critical ones that prevent Audiotron from signing into the Server. Note that I am not an expert and do not know exactly what the consequences of these changes are (but have not had any issues on Vista for several years). I also have a static IP address assigned to my server. - Setup Server Music folder to be shared - Go to Control Panel, System and Security, Administrative Tools - Select Local Security Policy and then Local Policies then Security Options - Find Network security: LAN Manager authentication Level o Change from Undefined (or Send NTLM_2 response) to Send LM & NTLM response - Find Do Not Store LAN Manager Hash Value on Next password o Change from Enabled to Disabled - Remove Password from primary User, Restart, and then reestablish password - Enter user name and PW into the Audiotron, Save settings - Click on bottom Server Share and make sure correct server address is entered into first spot - Make sure Auditrons are set up as Trusted Full in Trust Control Norton Smart Firewall.

I tried all the different suggestions above and none worked so I've given up. I installed a Squeezebox Duet this afternoon and the Audiotron went into the bin. The Squeezebox installed in 5 minutes and works well. Nice little remote control on it which even displays the album cover of the song that is playing.I got 8 years out of the Audiotron and it was good while it lasted.

For those interested, I had the same problem (even with the settings folks posted) but fixed the problem by hard coding the shared folders on the Windows 7 computer in AudioTron. 1. In "File Access" click "Click to configure Share Search Options" 2. Change "Share Search Mode" to "Search all folders in shared folders listed below and click "Save Share Search Mode" 3. In the "Configure Shares Manually" section, enter the Windows 7 share in the input field and click "Save Manual Search Settings" You should be able to go back to "File Access", press "Press to Check" and it should find your audio files on the Windows 7 system. Would like to see if others try this to see if this wasn't just a fluke. :)

Tried the changes described by AudioTronHelper59, didn't work. Tried the changes described by gojstark (two changes to Local Network Security Policy), now my AudioTrons have survived another technology upgrade to live to play another day. His changes are essentially the same as the registry changes described by MrBlack99. Thanks folks! My system is a brand new bare bones install of Win7, fresh out of the MS box, so there shouldn't be anything unusual, just about everything still set at original defaults.

Audiotron (3.2.25) Was working great with Windows 7, then Saturday I rebooted. Finds share fine, loads all the files but now when I play it skips each file. Rebooted, etc. Running now on XP. Any ideas?

Played around some more with Windows 7. Still keeps skipping all music files. Then went back to my XP machine and now have the same problem. Can find and load all the files but when it comes to playing the music files, it skips each one. There were some MS security updated that were recently loaded. I wonder if that is the problem. Now I am dead in the water....

Similar problem as above where it was pulling the wrong IP address for the share (could see this on Audiotron (options/network history) and on Audiotron web page. Disconnecting the network cable between the router and modem fixed the problem. Reboot. It takes a while longer to find the files but eventually it does with correct IP address for the share. Oh boy...
April 7th, 2010 3:52am

Many thanks to all who weighed in on the subject. My Audiotron too lives to fight another day. Since I live in one of the highest power cost areas of the country (55+ cents per KWH), I had retired my Audiotron because I couldn't justify leaivng a music server running all the time. But I recently discovered the tiny (4x4x1 inch) FIT-PC2 which sips only 7 watts, purchased one, loaded Windows 7 and retreived my AT from the attic ready to rock and roll. But as so many above, I discovered that Win 7 and my AT were not talking. After trying nearly every one of the suggestions above (I did not mess with registry entries), I did find that using a static IP address with 0.0.0.0 as the DNS address and checking "Allow Remote Netbios Hosts" did allow my AT access to the Win7 share although attempts to play music still failed. At least I could now update the AT firmware to 3.2.25. I loaded the files on the share, power cycled the AT, loaded the new firmware and it began grabbing shares from a Vista machine that had never been visible before. This despite the fact that all of the AT network settings had been reset to default by the firmware update. After reestablishing the static IP and Netbios settings, my AT is happily playing music from the FIT-PC server. So my advice is to upgrade to the 3.2.25 firmware first, if possible, before doing anything else then apply the various solutions above. Probably not all of them are necessary but don't seem to hurt. One more gotcha that caught me. After loading all my music on the Music server, I was perplexed that everything was visible to the Audiotron except for a couple of CDs that I had very recently ripped. The difference is that I had ripped them using the "Windows Media Audio Lossless" format instead of standard WMA. Apparently AT doesn't work with this format. Re-ripping fixed the problem.

After moving Windows 7 to a new workstation, I ran into the same problems as everyone, even though I did have it working on the old computer. I followed the instructions here: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itpronetworking/thread/033c418b-1096-4df7-bfad-fd3d431f3cd5 and Step 4 was the trick that did it. I still have to set Audiotron to use Manual Shares, though; but I've moved all my music to the new computer. Curious if others would try this and see if they now have success.

My setup - Windows 7, Audiotron with 3.2.25 firmware, Belkin F5D8232-4 router My problem - No matter what the setup (I've tried everything on this page), it appears my main issue is DNS. Like JunkIt, the Audiotron is resolving my PC's name to a bad address that's not only outside my home network, it's also unreachable. Interestingly, when I search for file shares, it finds it at the correct IP, but when it tries to access it, it uses the incorrect address and access is denied. Network History Network Configuration Local IP Address = 192.168.2.7 Audiotron Name = Atron0062ba Local MAC address = 00:04:32:00:62:ba Local Net Mask = 255.255.255.0 Local Gateway = 192.168.2.1 Local DNS server = 192.168.2.1 Initial Search at 0 days 0 hrs 0 mins Found host GFY at IP address=208.68.139.38 \\GFY\MY MUSIC - Share access denied Update Search at 0 days 0 hrs 8 mins Found 1 group Found group WORKGROUP Found Host GFY in group WORKGROUP @ 192.168.2.8 Host GFY found at IP 208.68.139.38 \\GFY - Access to host denied I'll keep looking for the solution, but in the meantime, I think I'm going to have to go the route of others and buy something else to replace it.

Well I DID have the AT working with W7 as I said above... but after a few months of inactivity and several windows updates later, it has stopped working. The AT can find the songs and TOC, but when I try to play, it gets an error and says "Host Down?" I also notice in the history log that it is getting IP addresses that do not make sense, they are not the right subnet. e.g. 206.68.139.38 instead of 192.168.0.113. Have tried all the old tricks an nothing is working. Looks like I gotta keep a legacy XP machine around or get a Squeezebox.
January 14th, 2011 1:55am

Further update for the record (not that there are too many AT users out there interested anymore) I reactivated my XP machine and the IP resolution problem was not fixed even for this machine. I did not try yet to turn off all the other machines except the XP (in case somehow the home network on W7 is messing things up). This is happening when I use the manual definition of the share directories (as we have found is necessary for W7 compatibility). When I switched back to automatic discovery, then the IP addresses were resolved properly and the XP shares can be accessed. The W7 directories get the familiar Access Denied and Error 50. Note: I do have Norton AV/firewall installed, but I did deactivate it. Also did the security mods that gojstark recommended and the DNS is 0.0.0.0 . I can only think that some update to W7 or Norton has confused the AT IP address resolution process. Before I pull the trigger on a Squeezebox or Transporter, maybe a NAS would do the trick.

gojstark's instructions are what worked for me. I tried the registry change method, but I didn't include gojstark's last bold step: removing and re-establishing the user's password on Windows 7. After that, the 'tron got into my new Win7 x64 host with no hassles. Hopefully there are no side-effects here. I suspect we are using an older and less secure login protocol that is compatible with the Audiotron. But I love the thing and my household would be in an uproar if it were replaced. I haven't compared it lately but the web UI and ability to pipe a digital stream into a good stereo certainly make it compelling. Turtle Beach, we're still out here, you still have a chance to bring it back! Thanks everyone!- Bob
