Can't see shares on W7RC computer from other computers in home network, won't print from other computers!
I upgraded from Vista Ultimate to W7RC1 and now I can't share anything from the W7RC computer! My other computers, XP and Vista can't connect via shares to the W7RC nor can they print. The printing is the main problem. I can connect to the other computers from W7RC but they can't connect to me. I even used the administrator account and password in the net use command but they can't connect to me. I have turned off the firewall, went into Local Security settings and turned off everything in there that wasn't already shut off. I can't even ping the W7RC computer from the other computers but I can ping them from my W7RC computer. It seems like all of the options in Print Manager apply to Group Policy so that is no help. I am running a home network with no DC so there is no Group Policy to change. I can't believe that I am the only one having issues with sharing a printer from W7RC! BTW, W7Beta lasted only 2 days, it crashed every 30 minutes, RC has been great and I also have a dual boot to W7 Enterprise 64 bit.I am running W7Pro at work but it has only been up 3 days so early to rate that. I need help on my home system that my XP box can't see the printer or shares on W7!

Hello, First you workgroup name needs to be the same as your Xp. This is done by opening Control Panel and in the lower right side there is a button that says Change Settings. Under the tad Computer Name there is a button that says Change. Click on it and at the bottom of that window is the place to rename it. Click all of the OKs and Applys. It may take a couple of minutes for it to work. However Window 7 by default does not share files of a drive with an OS except for the Public files and directories. There is another process that has to be done to change this. But then everything is exposed except for "Program Files" and System folders and files. Hope this helps JB

Hi, Please open Control Panel\Network and Sharing Center. Then click no Change advanced sharing settings in the left pane. Please ensure that File and printer sharing and Network discovery are enabled. If not, please enable them and choose Save changes. Also you need to create the same user name\password on all of the computers. Otherwise, please enable Guest account on all of the computers.Arthur Xie - MSFT
