Can't see my Vista PC's on network.
I am adding Vista Enterprise machines to a domain network. I am having a problem getting the XP machinesto see or pingVista machines. I also can't get the Vista machines to see or ping other Vista machines, but they can see the XP machines and theycan see and connect to all my 2003 servers. I have loaded LLTD on the XP machines and made sure all appropriate services are running, but that has not helped. Can anyone help me.

Hi Keith, Please temporarily turn off the firewall on the Vista machines to narrow down the issue. If the issue doesn't ocur, you may turn on the firewall and enable Windows Firewall exception for network discovery and ICMP. Also, make sure that there is no other firewall interfering with those ports. Sincerely, Joson ZhouMicrosoft Online Community Support

OK -- I've got the same issue, I guess. Two Vista machines, one XP down the hall, and one Ubuntu laptop. One of the Vistas can see all the rest, but the second Vista can't see the other. Firewall has been completely turned off, Symantec End Point off, same workgroup name is there, network discovery on, etc. Completely invisible. Any ideas? By the way, the one that's invisible WAS an XP pro machine - now has had in-place Vista Ultimate Upgrade done on it. Thanks m2

Yes, I'm yet another one. firewall(s)are/is disengaged on all machines that need to be connected together. Here's the difference I believe in theirs, and in my network setup. On the XP side it sees every computer BUT my Vista machine. On the Vista side, it sees only itself. All connectivity works fine, meaning the host server (XP) and Vista work together and I am able to transverse the internet without any problems withany machines. What I don't understand is why Microsoft doesn't have the same make a floppy and use it to connect the other machines together like they've done in the past, would make my job a whole heck of a lot easier.

Have same problem. All firewalls were off and pinging IP and by name is fine to Vista from server 2003. Still cannot access share resources. I did I could think of and found in my research. I have not tried LLTD on my XP systems since my main purpose is 2003 server to access Vista Ultimate so I can finish doing the Symantec End Point. I setup SEP on another network (no Vistas) and it works fine. Any help and new news? I find it hard to believe there is no LLTD like solution for the 2000 server. thanks.

Have you turn on "Discovery computer" and "File and Print sharing" in the network connection property from the control panel. Once you turn it on, properly IP setup, you should be able to use the shared resources together. Let me know what is the result.
