Can't resolve DNS (had a virus)
This is an XP computer on a Windows network. It is the only PC with this problem.Somehow a virus got past AVG (paid for version). I've removed it and now they can't get on the server or the internet. If I ping 192.168.0.2 (the server) it saysTrying to ping 192.168.0.2 [oy] but the 'y' has an umlaut on itIf I ping server01 (the server) it saysTrying to ping server01 [oy] with an umlaut on the 'y'Now I can get a response from the ping but it doesn't seem to resolve DNS properly and even when using Internet Explorer, typing inhttp://192.168.02 doesn't work even though there is a valid homepage there. As I said before, all the other PC's are fine, it's just this one. I've uninstalled the client, service, protocol and network card and rebooted but that just reinstalled everything.Anyone seen this before and does anyone know how to fix it ?Many thanksAdrian1 person needs an answerI do too

Look in Control Panel>Internet Options>Connections>LAN button and make sure there is nothing in any of the proxy information. Quite a few variants of malware will insert a proxy server. You didn't say with what the computer is infected and how you cleaned it, but take a look at the malware removal steps below to see if you were that thorough. If you weren't, then please go through the steps and don't skip the preparatory work.http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_MalwareYou also didn't mention whether this is a Workgroup or Domain Member workstation. If it belongs to a domain, then the DNS should point only to the server.MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!
