Can't remove Favorites from Windows Live Mail contacts index
I downloaded WLM as my client e-mail program for Windows 7, but Favorites has somehow insinuated itself into the alphabetical list of my contacts when I click on the 'To' tab to address a new e-mail. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of it, as I don't want it there, and it is beginning to really annoy me!

Unfortunately, the Windows Live Mail Help site offers no assistance with this, which is far from being the only problem I've experienced with Windows Live Mail in Windows 7 that I never experienced using WLM (which I have enthusiastically recommended to many others) in Vista. Overall, Windows 7 RC is a fine product, but there are still a number of glitches which would not be acceptable in a retail product to be resolved, a number of which relate to WLM. Regards Superbear

When you figure out how to get that Favorites(0) group out of the left pane, please post here.I don't exactly obsess over it, but I'd like to get it out of the Vista wlmail too.

For your information the favorites list you see when you click on the to tab while creating a new messegeis also present when windows live mail is running on vista and is also not removable so this issue can not be resolved ina windows 7 forum. It is also known that windows live mail does not function properly unless it's executableis set to run in compatibility mode of XP or vista. For example, minimizing to tray will not work properly unless compatability is configured. insteadit will only minimize to the task bar.

Mr. Seven, I shall be charitable for the moment, and assume that you have not fully understood my initial comment. The problem is that if I start a new e-mail, and select any or all of 'To', 'cc', or 'bcc', I get, uninvited, in my list of contacts an entry marked 'Favorites'. I did not put it there, I do not want it there, and I can't get rid of it. I ran WLM with Vista Home Premium without difficulty, and certainly never had to suffer this form of intrusion then. The only thing I can think of is that WLM 2009 is at fault for this; I believe that hitherto, I used previous versions of WLM. Whatever, I have identified that the current toxic combination of Windows 7 RC and WLM 2009 suffers from the following glitches: (i) The nonsense with 'Favorites' insinuating itself in the 'Contacts' list. (ii) The previously-documented problems with the '.eml' file extension. (iii) Windows 7 will not remember the selected setting of a resized message pane. (iv) Writing a reply to a received e-mail, WLM 2009 constantly defaults back to Calibri font, no matter how much I tell it I want Times New Roman. Why oh why does Windows consistently refuse to acquiesce to its user's wishes? Ideally, I'd like Gill Sans, but I guess Bill couldn't afford it. Hey, nobody's perfect. In frustration Superbear

Here is an image to illustrate the favorites list and correct me if it is not the one you are discussing that as you stated is forced upon you against your will. This image was taken from windows vista ultimate. I have not bean able to remove the favorites list you see highlited in this image which is the same in windows 7.Have you tried running it in compatibility mode?

How will font setting remove the favorites list?
July 31st, 2009 8:51pm
Mr. Seven Good to hear from you so soon! That's exactly the one- but it never appeared when I ran WLM in Vista! Neither, curiously, does it appear on WLM set up in a different W7 user account on my PC. Until a Softie provides a cogent explanation and solution, I shall have to assume that this is just another of those random indignities to which Redmond subject us poor long-suffering users from time to time!

Not only is it that I can't remove the favorites list, but when I remove all my contacts from the favorites category accessed by the menu bar, four of them still appear on the favorites list after clicking the "to" button.

derosnec : useful advice which I have followed. To date, all seems well- but none of this was necessary when running previous versions of WLM with Vista! Ho-hum.... I guess the cigar still awaits the first person who can deliver a foolproof means of getting that wretched 'Favorites' out of the damn Contacts list!

I used the guest account toseeif favorites was a permanent category, created some dummy contacts and there was no trace of favorites, nothing to remove.

The solution to your problem of wanting to remove the "Favorites" from within your Contacts list is very simple:Firstly, you should know that by doing this certain other applications will no longer work:Windows Live Calendar is one (because it requires online synchronization between Live Mail and Live Messenger services. To resolve the issue simply:1) Start the Windows Live Mail service2) Click on Tools/Options3) Click on the tab Connection4) At the bottom of the window click on the button to Stop signing inYou may have to close and restart the Windows Live Mail service, butyour issue is now resolved.Enjoy.
