Can't pin links to the taskbar
Program's, folders etc pin to the taskbar fine but when I try to pin a website (drag and drop method) I get the red circle with line through it. The best I've gotten is for it to pin itself to IE9 which isn't what I'm looking for. I'm up to date with all updates and have tried what little trouble shooting methods a google search led to. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Normally something like this wouldn't bother me but Ebay has a deal now that requires launching IE9 / Ebay link from the taskbar. I am guessing you already tried to create a shortcut to that website on the desktop and after that try to pin it to taskbar from there?Bob Cornelissen - BICTT (My BICTT Blog)

This behavior is by design. Website urls are supposed to be pinned into IE but not the Taskbar. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Arthur, are you serious? It could be argued this is one of the "premiere" features of IE9. To the OP, sorry I can't help, the few times I've tried have worked just fine on multiple machines. I've got my work portal and w3schools pinned right now, use them all the time. Hope you find a solution, and if you do it would be great if you could post back here in case someone else has a similar problem. DAS

After a few more hours of trolling I still haven't had any luck. I'll definitely check back in if I find a solution. And to Bob, yes I did try that but thank you for the suggestion.Windows 7, SP1 (64 bit professional), Dell XPS L502X Half a Tech

My wife has Win7 64bit with IE9 on her Compaq laptop and I have Win7 32bit with IE8 on my Dell laptop, and we have exactly the same problem.

Tried that, but all that happens is that it get's pinned in the IE list; it doesn't get pinned as a separate object directly on the Taskbar.

According to the following Microsoft webpage http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/pin-a-website-to-your-taskbar you SHOULD be able to pin a webpage directly to the Windows Taskbar. But at least for some of us it doesn't work. Even though the URL says "windows-vista" the actual article says "For quick access, you can pin a frequently visited website to the taskbar on the Windows 7 desktop, just like you would a program." And it shows a screenshot with the website's icon pinned directly on the taskbar, and not just in the pinned IE list.
