Can't open web pages???
Using windows vista home premium, I'm not able to access any of Microsoft, Hotmail, MSN, windows web pages. Vista came with Norton that i changed for Avast anti virus. Going crazy for days. Called HP, Microsoft and my DSL provider, no one can help, but everybody agree that there is a software that stopping me from accessing web. Does anyone got similar experience and is willing to help?

Hi, Thank you for your post. I understand that IE cannot display any webpage on a Windows Vista machine. Before we go further, I would like to obtain more information from you: What is the error message displaying on IE when you try to browse a website? Is there any other computer located in the same network? Please type ipconfig /all in Command Prompt after establishing DSL connection, and capture the output to me. When did the issue start to occur? After you have installed Avast antivirus? Can the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) of the website be resolved on the Windows Vista machine? Please run the following command in the command prompt and let me know the result:nslookup www.microsoft.com Additionally, please log into Safe Mode with Networking and try to browse website. How does it work? Thanks. Sincerely, Joson Zhou Microsoft Online Community Support

I've read through hundreds of forum entries about this issue about not being able to display webpages on IE 7..for me, the fix has been to not allow the IE Security update (KB942615) ..I was getting all the errors as everyone else and had tried everything as mentioned in the various forums..the only thing that has worked was to restore my box to a state prior to the security update...I'm running vista home ...with the update installed, i am able to ping, im, etc..but cannot load IE or any other browser (firefox)..it errors out with 'cannot display webpage' -- i even went through and changed all the security settings and tried to do some reg. hacks..didn't work...so now I keep up-to-date restore points just incase I fail asleep at the switch and install the update by accident..or at least until microsoft figures out that this is an issue that is widespread and is NOT machine dependent as some of the MS experts seem to suggest in the forums...
