Can't modify or delete a file although I have full permission and logged in as administrator
Hi everyone, I have Windows 7 professional. Second time I encounter the same problem that, although I have full control on a file (I am logged in as administrator) I cannot delete or modify it. When I try to modify the file permissions, all options are grayed out and nothing can be changed. But, in fact, there should not be any need to modify the permissions because it already says "Full control". First time, because of this problem, I had to stop using Microsoft Office. Because of one file that could no longer be modify Office would not work. That was not a problem, I just switched to Open Office and do not regret that. But now I can't change or modify wireless profiles, because the same problem has happened to the files where the wireless profiles are stored. As a result, I can't connect to a wireless network whose password has been changed (It's not only me who cannot modify the file, the system cannot modify it either. As a result, when I try to change a wireless profile through the Manage Wireless Networks window, I get an error message that "Access is denied". This is becoming really embarrassing. Can anybody explain me what's going on with my Windows?

Which file do you try to modify? Where is the file stored? With User Account Control you have standard user rights. So check which permissions the user group has. "A programmer is just a tool which converts caffeine into code" CLIP- Stellvertreter http://www.winvistaside.de/

This time I am trying to modify one of the .xml files stored in c:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Wlansvc\Profiles\Interfaces\(wireless adaptor ID)\ These are the files where the wireless profiles are stored. Last time that was a different file related to MS Office, which I don't remember now. As for the user account, I am logged in as Administrator so I suppose I should have all rights? Besedes, as I have written, in the File Permissions tab it shows that I have Full Control, and still I can do nothing with the file. Lastly, even the system cannot do anything - when trying to change the wireless profile properties through the appropriate system utility, I also get a message "Access is denied" when trying to save the changes.

ok, in C:\ProgramData users have no writing permissions. And no, with UAC users of the admin group have standard user rights. Run the Editor (notepad, Word) with admin rights [1] to be able to edit the file. Something must be wrong with my system. I am doing exactly what you have written and it does not work on my computer. Maybe I should write to MS tech support (but they charge for that)...

right click on the file and look which security settings does the file have. Which permissions have standard users and which permissions have admins?"A programmer is just a tool which converts caffeine into code" CLIP- Stellvertreter http://www.winvistaside.de/

Just found a solution on another forum. Disabled the antivirus and then I could modify the file. Thank you anyway for all the suggestions.
