Can't log in to network drive because of Domain name
I'm trying to log in to my network drive on a new laptop. I have no issues logging on to the drive from my desktop running 8.1 and my older PC running XP. When I tried to log on using XP I had issues at first because I noticed it was adding the domain name for the PC to the username and it was saying my password/usnername was incorrect. Fixing this on XP was simple as all I had to do was delete domain from the username. I don't seem to have that option in Windows 8.1. What can I do?

Hi!

In Windows 8.1 you should have the same option when trying to log in, just pick "Log on using a different account"

Here, type "domain\username" and enter the password.

Hey Andreas,

How would I go about finding the domain for the router I'm using? It's an asus rt-n56u. Also when I select use another account it still defaults the domain to the laptop. Will typing "domain\username" overwrite that?

Thanks for the help!

Hi!

Typing domain\username will overwrite the default, your computer name, yes.

The "domain" you should use is the name of the computer/nas/server where the share is located and the username on that device that has access to the share.

Let's say that the share is located on a NAS called NAS1 and the local account that has access to the share is called Admin.

Then you would type: NAS1\Admin and then enter the password..

Hope this helps!
