Can't join server 2003 32bit enterprise domain with windows 7 64bit client
I have a newly built server 2003 32 bit enterprise evaluation version. I can't join domain with a windows 7 client. I can ping server from client and ping client from server. However I cant ping FQDN of server from client. I don't know if the dns configurations on the server are correct. This is the first time I have ever installed and configured server from scratch. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

1. In the TCP/IP properties there should be DNS that contains RR of Active Directory. 2. Test AD with netdiag /fix /debug (This creates netdiag.log. Look into it for "fail") 3. For sure, issue ipconfig /flushdns 4. For test purposes disable firewall(s) 5. Add domain suffix into TCP/IP properties. 6. Force Windows 7 to use SMB version 1. If you still cannot join, 7. Use domain\admoinistrator syntax when joining AD 8. Use network monitor to catch the network traffic between Windows 7 and Windows Server 2003 (Domain controller.) Regards Milos

When you run "ipconfig /all" do you see any ip address under DNS server on the client windows 7 computer. If you don't then you will need to set DNS manually on the client and then you should be able to join the domain. (Your DNS server is probably your server 2003)
